With Satellite SOS onboard, your Google Pixel is now more useful in case of emergency.

In 2022, Apple introduced ‘Emergency SOS’ on the iPhone 14 series. This feature comes in handy in emergencies when the iPhone cannot connect to cellular services. It uses satellite connectivity to connect to emergency services. This year, Google incorporated this feature on the Google Pixel 9. For the Satellite SOS to work, your smartphone must be visible from the sky. Access to an open sky is critical in connecting to a passing satellite. In case of an emergency, the first thing you should do is move to a spot where your smartphone is not limited or inhibited from any direction. If you can’t move outside, take your phone near a window and point it at the sky.

Once your smartphone connects to a satellite, you are made to fill out a list of basic questions. This list is relayed to the emergency services along with your phone’s locations, battery level, IMEI, and language. Details like your name, phone number, and emergency contact information are also shared with the emergency services and the satellite service provider.
