Google has announced that a revamped version of Gmail will be available to the users soon. The company is going to combine Gmail, Meet, Chat and Spaces for an Integrated View. This will decrease the need to switch between different apps, windows, or tabs. The redesigned version of Gmail is said to be available to Workspace users later this month and to all the users by the second quarter of 2022.

The modifications are part of the company’s upgrades to its email service for Workspace clients announced last year, as Google strives to seamlessly combine Google Chat, Meet, and Spaces under its workplace offering. As per Google’s Workplace blog the users will be able to begin testing the new integrated view on February 8.

“We’re introducing a new, integrated view for Gmail, making it easy to move between critical applications like Gmail, Chat and Meet in one unified location.” the blog post noted.

When enabled, the new navigation menu allows you to quickly transition between inbox, critical discussions, and meetings without having to switch tabs or open a new window.

Notification bubbles will make it simple to remain on top of what needs your immediate attention. When working in Chat and Spaces, you may view a complete list of chats and Spaces on a single page, making it easier to browse to and connect with them.

When working in your inbox, you’ll be able to see the whole set of Mail and Label choices that are now accessible in Gmail. In the coming months, when you use the search bar, you will also get e-mail and chat results, making it easier to locate what you need by eliminating the need to search within a specific product.

As per the company will share an update on the Workspace Updates Blog, along with Help Center content, once rollout begins on February 8. However by April 2022 users who have not opted-in will begin seeing the new experience by default, but can revert to classic Gmail via settings.

By the end of Q2 2022, Google says that the new change will be the standard experience for Gmail, with no option to revert back. Also by this time, they will also notice a new streamlined navigation experience on the Chat web. This also means users will not have the option to configure Chat to display on the right side of Gmail.
