Hotstar sets record with 100 million daily active users during India vs Pakistan match in 2019 Cricket World Cup

Previously, the OTT platform recorded 18.6 million viewership during IPL 2019 final match.

On Monday, Disney-owned video streaming platform Hotstar broke all the records by gathering 100 million active users during India VS Pakistan world cup match. The cricket match that was held on June 16 between India and Pakistan had a record-breaking viewership.

Varun Narang, Chief Product Officer, Hotstar said in a statement, “We are delighted to have been able to deliver an uninterrupted cricket watching experience to such a large audience at once. Having achieved a single day platform reach of 100 million demonstrates the indisputable technology prowess that Hotstar brings to the OTT industry. This remarkable achievement has helped us set a new viewership benchmark.”

According to the company, 66% of the 100 million viewers came from towns beyond the metro cities that recorded 15.6 million of concurrency, that is highest ever for an ODI match. In comparison to any other India match, this marked a 1.7x increase in the average concurrency.

Hotstar is providing streams across six languages including English, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada during the Cricket World Cup 2019. Apart from that, the video streaming platform is also providing streaming to its consumers in the US and Canada via mobile and web applications on devices like Roku TV, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV Stick, Android TV, and Samsung Smart TV.

Hotstar has also partnered with other video streaming platforms like Amazon Prime Video, SonyLiv, Netflix, Voot, Zee5, ALTBalaji and Eros Now.

To attract Indian viewers, Hotstar has continued its #KoiYaarNahiFar social campaign with its Watch ‘N Play feature. This feature allows viewers and their friends to connect and let you discuss the match.

During IPL 2019, when the company had introduced the social campaign, 64.4 million users engaged in it and out of these, 1.2 million users answered the question that was asked during the match, sent 5.9 billion emojis and 43.5 million comments.

To recall, on May 12, during Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019, the final match Hotstar broke global records by registering 18.6 million viewers. Apart from that, the OTT platform registered 10 million viewership three times during IPL 2019.
