Huawei Mate X 5G Foldable Phone with two displays, Kirin 980 processor unveiled at MWC 2019: Price and specifications

Just days after Samsung Galaxy Fold got unveiled, Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has launched its foldable 5G smartphone at a pre-MWC 2019 event in Barcelona, Spain. Dubbed Huawei Mate X 5G foldable Phone, the device comes with two OLED FullView Display panels on its outer body. So, it is basically a smartphone that can be opened up as an 8-inch tablet. The company has also used a two-in-one camera that comes with Leica optics.

Although it is not the first foldable phone to be launched, Huawei Mate X is certainly the first foldable device to come with 5G connectivity. However, instead of being powered by Snapdragon 855 SoC, it houses the HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset. The Chinese smartphone brand is offering Falcon Wing Design and a FullView Display in its newly launched foldable smartphone. Huawei Mate X Foldable Phone price

The price of the Huawei Mate X has been set at EUR 2,299, which is approximately Rs 2,09,400. It is worth noticing that this is the pricing of the 8GB RAM/512GB storage model of the smartphone. The Huawei Mate X foldable phone will go on sale from the middle of this year and initially, it will only be launched only in an Interstellar Blue colour option. The company is giving its foldable phone to different carriers for 5G testing.

Huawei Mate X Foldable Phone runs Android 9.0 Pie skinned with EMUI 9.1.1 and comes with two FullView Display screens. While one of them is 6.6-inches in size, the other is a 6.38-inch display. When unfolded, the device has an 8-inch OLED FullView Display panel, and when folded, the 6.6-inch screen stays at the front. This screen has a display resolution of 1148×2480 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The display that stays in the front has been touted to handle one-handed operations very smoothly.

The 6.38-inch display that we mentioned earlier acts as a back panel and comes with a screen resolution of 892×2480 pixels and an aspect ratio of 25:9. Like Vivo NEX Dual Display, Huawei Mate X’s back panel comes into use when the device is being used for clicking selfies.

Lastly, the 8-inch display that appears when the smartphone is unfolded, comes with a screen resolution of 2480×2200 pixels and an aspect ratio of 8:71. The device is said to come with a patented hinge design that has over 100 components.

Huawei Mate X is powered by the company’s own HiSilicon Kirin 980 processor clubbed with 8GB of RAM. It also has a Huawei Balong 5000 5G chipset that has the world’s first 7nm modem and in addition to this, there is a quad 5G antenna on the device. Huawei Mate X can support the initial NSA network architecture as well as SA architecture that would be launched later.

For imaging duties, the device only has one camera setup that can be used for clicking regular as well as selfie shots. The camera setup of the smartphone has lenses that are powered by Leica optics and comprises of a 40MP wide-angle sensor, a 16MP ultra-wide-angle sensor and an 8MP telephoto sensor. The device has 512GB of storage and can hold a microSD card of up to 256GB. It houses a 4,500mAh battery with 55W Huawei SuperCharge technology and for connectivity, it has 5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port.
