In H1 2022, searches for 5G smartphones in India increased by almost two times: Flipkart

According to data from Flipkart, searches for 5G smartphones climbed over twofold in the first half of 2022 compared to the same period in 2017.

More than 1.5X as many 5G smartphone debuts were seen on Flipkart in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year, according to a report by the online retailer.

The Indian smartphone market is undergoing rapid transformation as more and more consumers look for 5G smartphone to benefit from higher internet connections that will allow them to complete downloads more quickly and enjoy smoother gaming, video talking, and HD movie watching. Insights from Flipkart show that 5G smartphone searches on its platform have increased by almost 2X in the first half of 2022 compared to the same period last year. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu are the top 5 states where consumers are looking for 5G devices.

Flipkart claims that this trend is further anticipated to pick up steam with the latest spectrum auctions as India enters an exclusive club of nations that have already installed the 5G network, including the United States of America, China, and the United Kingdom.

Since several companies, including Motorola, Samsung, OPPO, Vivo, realme, and POCO, among others, have introduced a wide array of 5G smartphones at different price points starting at Rs 12,999, Flipkart has been able to meet the wide variety of customer demand across the nation. The demand for 5G smartphones priced between Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000 has increased by almost 4X in the first half of 2022 compared to the same period last year, per platform sales patterns.

According to Kunal Gupta, Senior Director, Mobiles at Flipkart, “Over the past few quarters, we have witnessed an increasing demand for 5G smartphones that will offer higher internet speed across metros and smaller cities, with nearly 75% of the searches coming from tier 2 and beyond cities. At Flipkart, we endeavour to provide customers with the widest selection of 5G Smartphones from various brands across all price points as per the customer needs.”
