Instagram has introduced a Reels tab and a Shop tab. While the Reels tab helps users to find short, fun videos from creators all over the world, the Shop tab enables them to connect with brands and creators and discover products they love.
Asserting that Instagram has always focussed on young people and creators because they’re trendsetters, Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, said, “Change is happening quickly right now, including how both of these groups use Instagram and engage with the world. This year, with the pandemic and much of the world sheltering in place, we’ve seen an explosion in short, entertaining videos on Instagram. We’ve also seen an incredible amount of shopping move online, with more and more people buying online and young people looking to their favourite creators for recommendations on what to buy.”
In August this year, Instagram had first launched Reels, which is a new way to create and discover short, entertaining videos on Instagram. Reels enables the users to create fun videos to share with your friends or anyone on the Facebook-owned photos and video sharing app. All that has to be done is record and edit 15-second multi-clip videos with audio, effects and new creative tools. Then, the same can be shared with the followers in Feed or one can even make them available to the wider Instagram community through a new space in Explore.
However, Instagram has now launched the Reels tab to be a kind of a stage, a place where people can share their creativity with the world and have a chance to break out and find an audience.
Furthermore, the Shop tab by Instagram will help the users to get inspired by creators they love, shop on Instagram as well as support small businesses. One can find personalized recommendations, editors’ picks curated by the @shop channel, shoppable videos, new product collections, and more.
“We don’t take these changes lightly — we haven’t updated Instagram’s homescreen in a big way for quite a while. But how people create and enjoy culture has changed, and the biggest risk to Instagram is not that we change too fast, but that we don’t change and become irrelevant. We’re excited about the new design and believe it gives the app a much-needed refresh,” added Mosseri.
Instagram also asked the users for their feedback so that it can keep improving the platform to enable the users discover more of what they love on Instagram and help them with the ambition of becoming a creator take center stage.
