Meta has launched a new app, Forum, similar to Reddit, which works on devices running iOS 18.0 or later. The application just emerged on the App Store without any announcements. Its main aim is to enable connection between people with similar interests; the users may post anonymously using a fake name. You may need to have a Facebook account to use the app. The app includes features such as an ’Ask’ button and an AI-powered tab that provides quick replies in group settings.

The app was quietly rolled out of the iOS App Store and seeks to provide a better user experience by stripping out several elements often associated with the main Facebook site, including Reels, marketplaces, and the standard news feed. Forum, it stresses, offers a simplified design that prioritises community engagement within groups, much like how platforms like Reddit operate.

Key features include the following:

  • User-Friendly Design: The app has a cleaner, less distracting layout than Facebook, so you are able to focus on what’s happening in the groups you are part of.
  • Integration with Facebook: Users can log in using their existing Facebook accounts, so it is easy to transfer existing groups and community activities. This integration creates a bridge between the app and Facebook and ensures that the user is continuously engaged.
  • Visibility Across Platforms: Posts in the app are mirrored on Facebook and vice versa, so your interactions stay in sync. The dual visibility helps deepen engagement and connectedness for those who are active on both sites.

  • Focused Interaction: The application focuses on posts and discussions in the groups you choose, based on certain interests like hobbies or advice. It is designed to facilitate richer conversations among people with similar interests.
  • “Ask” Feature: Dedicated feature allowing users to ask questions and get genuine feedback from members of various groups. This leads to a more engaging and supportive community atmosphere.
  • “Nickname” Privacy: Users may choose to remain anonymous by posting using a nickname. But admins may still access the real name of a person for safety and moderation reasons.
  • AI for Group Admins: An integrated AI assistant helps group admins in managing their communities. This helps in keeping track of content and flagging policy violations, therefore improving the overall management of group dynamics.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

If a separate account is necessary for the Forum app, can I use my existing Facebook login?

You do not need to register a separate account to use the Forum app; you can use your Facebook login details to log in. With this integration, you get a smooth user experience – you don’t have to maintain multiple accounts, and you get the security and convenience of Facebook authentication.

When I post content on the Forum app, will it also appear on the main Facebook platform?

Yes. The Forum app is a dedicated interface that builds on existing Facebook Groups, not a whole different social network. Your groups stay on the main Facebook ecosystem, so any posts, comments or interactions you post inside the Forum app will be instantaneously reflected for members checking those same groups on the main Facebook app or website and vice versa.

Does the app allow users to post anonymously?

The app does not allow full anonymity, but it does offer additional privacy settings. One of the app’s features is Nickname, which lets you post or comment using a pseudonym on the public-facing feed. But you remain linked to a real, authentic Facebook identity for moderation and safety reasons, and therefore, group admins and moderators may still see your real account identity to guarantee healthy community standards.
