Motorola joins the bandwagon, confirms to bring Snapdragon 888 SoC to the tenth generation of Moto G

Motorola Nio is the company’s alleged smartphone that has been under development. The device has also appeared in leaks a couple of times which mentioned that this is the company’s next flagship device after Motorola Edge+ to be powered by Snapdragon 865 SoC. But in a new development, the company has confirmed launching its next flagship based on Qualcomm’s latest chipset Snapdragon 800-series processor. 

President Sergio Buniac during the Qualcomm summit stated, “2021 will mark the tenth generation of Moto G – and nothing would make us prouder than bringing [Qualcomm Snapdragon] 800 series experiences to this family. Our mission is to deliver smarter technology for all. We can’t wait to show you more.” The company’s next flagship device is rumoured to be Motorola Nio but as per the company’s statement its next flagship device.

To contradict this a report on the internet has surfaced suggesting Motorola device codenamed Nio is a variant of Moto G that is expected to be powered by 865 SoC. A well-known tipster Evan Blass via Voice has shared an image of the alleged device being called the Motorola ‘Nio’. The leaked image only shows the front panel of the smartphone featuring dual selfie cameras housed inside two separate cutouts positioned at the top left corner of the screen. Moreover, the device has thick bezels on the sides, top and bottom. The phone is said to be powered by 865 SoC and it might run Samsung DeX-like desktop interface coming to some upcoming Moto handsets.

Apart from this, the alleged phone will be available in 8GB of RAM with 256GB of storage. It might pack a 5,000mAh battery with Android 11 operating system running on the phone out of the box. It could also have a USB-C port for charging with support for the DisplayPort Alternate Mode which is capable of connecting to external monitors.

In a previous report by TechnikNews via Adam Conway from XDA Developers, a Motorola device was spotted with model number XT2125 and codename ‘Nio’ which is expected to use Snapdragon 865 processor along with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. It is likely to have a Full-HD + display with a 90Hz refresh rate and 1080 × 2520 pixels of resolution.

In addition to this, the German publisher also hints at a well-known OmniVision “OV64B” 64MP megapixel primary sensor which is already present on Moto G9 Power or Plus. Moreover, the ultra-wide-angle sensor from the same OmniVision and is the 16-megapixel “ov16a10” sensor. While the third sensor is again speculated to be “ov02b1b” which is the 2-megapixel depth sensor.

For selfies Motorola Nio is said to feature two cutouts on the display to play house to a dual selfie camera set up that will include a 16-megapixel sensor (OV16A1Q) and a Samsung sensor (S5K4H7) with a resolution of 8-megapixel. In addition to this, the alleged phone will be supporting a dual SIM slot and will ship Android 11 out of the box. The device is expected to arrive in quarter 1 of 2021.
