Xiaomi’s Redmi 7A smartphone is all set to launch in India on July 4. The launch date of the handset has been confirmed via a dedicated microsite on Flipkart. Since the handset’s microsite has popped-up on Flipkart, we can safely assume that the device will be exclusively available on the website. But then, the Redmi 7A will obviously also be available on Mi.com and Mi Home stores too.

The smartphone was launched in China in May this year and it is basically a watered down version of the Redmi 7. The handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 439 SoC and it houses a 4,000mAh battery. To recall, last week, Xiaomi India’s managing director Manu Kumar Jain teased the India launch of the Redmi 7A, but then, he did not give a specific release date. He also added that the Redmi 7A smartphone in India will come with an upgrade that the China variant does not have.

Coming to the Flipkart microsite, it has called the Redmi 7A as “Smart Desh Ka Smartphone.” While the website has not confirmed any details around the price and availability of the Redmi 7A, the listing does say that it will be launched on July 4. It also says that the smartphone will come with a “fast processor”, a “Facebook-ready camera” and a “long lasting battery.”

Earlier, Xiaomi’s Redmi 7A smartphone was launched in China in May this year in 16GB and 32GB storage variants. And as we mentioned earlier, Jain teased the launch of the Redmi 7A in India last week. The handset comes as a watered-down variant of the Redmi 7 that was launched in India in April this year. The India variant of Redmi 7A will be a little different from the model that was launched in China. Jain also specified in his tweet that Xiaomi will be upgrading a “massive” feature in the smartphone for its launch in India. However, he has not specified which feature he is talking about.

Redmi 7A price in India (expected)

In China, the Redmi 7A smartphone is priced at CNY 549 (approximately Rs 5,500) for its 16GB storage variant, and its 32GB storage model will cost CNY 599 (approximately Rs 6,000). The handset is available in Matte Black and Blue colours. In India too, the smartphone is expected to be priced on similar lines.

Redmi 7A specifications

As of now, we only know about the specifications of the China variant of the Redmi 7A smartphone. The device comes with support for dual SIM card and runs Android 9.0 Pie skinned with MIUI 10. The handset features a 5.45-inch HD (720×1440 pixels) display that has an aspect ratio of 18:9. Powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 processor, the Redmi 7A comes with 2GB of RAM.

On the imaging front, the device comes with a 13MP rear camera with an LED flash. For selfies and video calls, there is a 5MP front-facing snapper with AI Face Unlock.

As we mentioned earlier, the smartphone is available in 16GB and 32GB storage options and can also hold a microSD card. The handset houses a 4,000mAh battery.
