Meet Gauss2: The Multimodal Marvel

Gauss2 isn’t just an upgrade; it’s a multimodal language model that handles language, code, and images simultaneously. Available in three tailored models—Compact, Balanced, and Supreme—it caters to diverse needs:

  • Compact Model: Designed for efficiency in limited computing environments, making it ideal for on-device applications.
  • Balanced Model: Strikes a harmony between performance, speed, and efficiency, ensuring consistent results across tasks.
  • Supreme Model: Aims for top-tier performance using a Mixture of Expert technology, reducing computational costs while maintaining high efficiency.

Supporting between nine and fourteen languages, depending on the model, Gauss2 also handles various programming languages. Samsung developed custom stabilization techniques and a specialized tokenizer to maximize efficiency in these languages.

Outpacing the Competition

The Balanced and Supreme models boast performance metrics that meet or exceed those of leading open-source AI models. With processing speeds 1.5 to 3 times faster per hour, they promise quicker responses and reduced wait times for users.

Internal Success Stories

Gauss2 is already making waves within Samsung. The in-house coding assistant, known as code.i, leverages Gauss2 to aid software developers. Since upgrading, code.i’s monthly usage has quadrupled, with about 60% of the Device eXperience (DX) Division’s developers now on board. Additionally, the Gauss Portal—a conversational AI service—helps employees with tasks like document summarization and email composition.

Looking Ahead: AI for All

Under its “AI for All” vision, Samsung plans to integrate Gauss2 across all product lines, aiming for enhanced personalization and convenience. By combining AI with knowledge graph technology, the company expects to offer even more tailored services to users.

Samsung’s introduction of Gauss2 signals a significant step forward in the generative AI arena. While it’s exciting to see such advancements, it will be interesting to observe how Gauss2 competes with other AI models and what real-world applications emerge from this innovation.
