Snapchat has added a new feature called Topic Chats, which allows users to have public chats about current events and different communities. This is a significant move for Snapchat, which has typically concentrated on private messages. While individuals can participate in these conversations, their accounts are kept secret from non-friends, preventing unwanted connections. The feature tries to boost public engagement by leveraging the community’s interest in debating current topics.
The announcement marks an important change for Snapchat, which is best known for allowing private chats, as it introduces Topic Chats, an innovative tool aimed at increasing public involvement. Inspired by the community’s growing interest in public opinion, Snapchat intends to create a space for real-time debates on current topics. Users in Canada, New Zealand, and the United States should anticipate Topic Chats to be incorporated across the app in the coming weeks, including Chat shortcuts, search features, the Stories page, and Spotlight videos. Users may simply join discussions by hitting the prominent yellow “Join the Chat” icon on relevant Stories or Spotlight content, which will take them further into current discussions and related media.
As mentioned earlier, Topic Chats on Snapchat provide a simplified platform for public discussions, focusing on hot subjects in the community and throughout the world. These conversations highlight the most popular chat elements, allowing users to effortlessly interact with current events and similar interests. A major feature is the grouping of Snaps related to a certain topic, enabling the visual analysis of ongoing conversations. Users may also see which friends are taking part in these Topic Chats, which promotes a feeling of community and similar interests. Furthermore, these conversations may be prioritised on the Topic Chat page, making interactions more accessible.
