Qualcomm has announced its newest mid-range processor, the Snapdragon 712 SoC. It is the successor of Snapdragon 710 SoC which was announced an year earlier. Its performance is definitely lesser than the 800 series chipsets which are used in flagship smartphones. But it is a greater performing processor than the 600 series and is far better than the 400 series. The 700 series chipsets from Qualcomm can be seen in many devices by Nokia, Oppo and other smartphone manufacturers who target the mid-range segment.

Unlike Snapdragon 855 SoC, which is far greater than last year’s Snapdragon 845 processor, the Snapdragon 712 chipset will not offer a great improvement from its predecessor but it will definitely come with enhanced features as compared to Snapdragon 710. According to Qualcomm, the newly launched processor would have better support and integration with AI, and the company also claimed that the new processor is ten times faster than its predecessor. Snapdragon 712 processor uses a 10nm-based chip with a 64-bit architecture and it also has an 8X Kyro 360 CPU.

There are no changes in the GPU department as Snapdragon 712 SoC has the same GPU as the Snapdragon 710 processor – the Adreno 616 GPU. It has the Snapdragon X15 modem, which supports downlink of LTE Cat.15 and uplink Cat.13. The processor is clocked at 2.3 GHz which is an upgrade from the Snapdragon 710 Soc, which was clocked at 2.2GHz. It has Quick Charge 4.0+ so we can see an improvement in the charging time and the charging speed.

Audiophiles and music lovers would rejoice as the Snapdragon 712 processor supports TrueWireless Stereo Plus, Aqstic Audio, aptX audio and Broadcast Audio technologies, which would give a better Bluetooth audio and audio quality. And with the removal of headphone jacks from the smartphones it would be a great addition to have this added feature in the chipset. This upgraded processor also keeps the camera support same as its predecessor which can be either a dual camera setup of 20MP or a single camera of 32MP.
