WhatsApp is planning to add a feature that allows users to decide on a profile cover photo, similar to those on Facebook and LinkedIn. This feature, available for WhatsApp Business accounts since 2022, allows users to show a cover image at the top of their profile. Users may make their cover photo available to everyone, which improves the customisation of their social networking experience. The feature is part of Meta’s larger push to expand profile customisation for all users.
According to a report, WhatsApp intends to add cover photos to its app, allowing normal users to personalise their profiles similarly to business accounts. The capability was found following the release of the most recent WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.32.2, which is now accessible on the Google Play Store. This update attempts to improve user engagement by allowing for more personal expression.
This feature allows businesses to display a banner photo at the top of their profiles that highlights their brand or important information. Currently, normal users are unable to modify their accounts in this manner. However, recent modifications to the beta version indicate that WhatsApp is preparing to expand this capability to all users in a future release. This improvement aims to give a more personalised and visually attractive profile experience to WhatsApp’s whole user base.
Once implemented, the new WhatsApp feature will allow users to display a cover photo that reflects their style, identity, or current mood. This cover photo will be prominently displayed at the top of the profile page, acting as a unique banner that adds character to each user’s profile. This design mimics the cover layouts prevalent on social media sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn, providing a familiar and visually attractive feature to user profiles.

WhatsApp allows users to control who may view their cover photo. The options under testing include “Everyone,” which grants access to all WhatsApp users regardless of contact status; “My contacts,” which restricts visibility to those saved in the user’s address book; and “Nobody,” which fully hides the cover photo from all users. This last option is very useful for people who desire to keep their cover photo but do not want it to be seen temporarily.
WhatsApp does not yet provide the option “My contacts except,” which allows users to restrict select contacts from accessing specified features, such as cover photos. This limitation may change in the future as the platform improves its functionality based on user input from beta testing. This limitation underscores WhatsApp’s dedication to user control and privacy while expanding customisation options.

The upcoming feature, which allows users to pick a cover photo for their WhatsApp profile, is still under development and will be accessible following internal testing and optimisation.
