Spotify revised Premium pricing in India: High-End Platinum Tier Holds Steady as Standard and Student Plans See Adjustments

The "Spotify Lite" plan, which included daily and weekly rates, has been discontinued.

Spotify has made significant changes to its subscription landscape in India, introducing major price revisions to its main subscription plans. Furthermore, the Spotify Lite plan has been quietly discontinued, having been removed from both the website and the mobile application just six months after its original release. This transition is a deliberate decision to simplify their services while possibly meeting customer wants in the Indian market.

Price Adjustments for Standard and Student Plans

The monthly fees for Spotify’s primary tiers have been restructured. The Premium Standard tier is currently priced at ₹139 per month, lower than the previous ₹199 rate, stabilising after previous price rises rather than decreasing from its original launch price of ₹119. Additionally, the Premium Student category now costs ₹69 per month. To drive adoption, Spotify is offering special promotional pricing, with the Standard plan starting at ₹99 for the first three months and the Student plan for ₹69 for the first two.

The Premium Platinum Tier remains unchanged and is priced at ₹299 per month, making it a top-tier option for the subscription model. Subscribers benefit from Lossless Audio Quality, which allows high-resolution streaming, notably up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC, resulting in superb sound fidelity.

The service also includes AI Integration, which improves the listening experience by giving unique features like a personal AI DJ and tools for AI-driven playlist creation, as well as personalised recommendations to users. The plan also features Household Sharing, which allows up to three different Platinum accounts to be created inside a single household, allowing for shared access among family members or roommates.

The End of Spotify Lite: This marks the most significant shift in the service

Spotify Premium Lite, which was introduced six months ago, has been discontinued. This plan was meant to provide consumers a low-cost, low-bitrate (160kbps) option. The plan’s removal from both the official website and the app indicates a strategic shift at Spotify. The company seems to be working on consolidating its user base into regular and high-fidelity subscription tiers.
