For the past year WhatsApp has been working on privacy features such as Last Seen, Profile Photo, and About status to be shared with specific contacts. These features are currently under the pipeline and in a new development, the Meta social media platform was spotted releasing advanced settings to manage your privacy settings to some beta testers. This brings advanced settings to manage last seen, about, profile photos to more Android beta testers.
WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.8.9 was released a few weeks ago, bringing advanced settings to manage last seen, about, and profile photos to more Android beta testers. The same feature is now available to some WhatsApp beta users who download the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 22.9.0.70 from TestFlight, according to WABetaInfo.

As per the shared screenshot, you may notice a new option called “My Contacts Except…” if you go to WhatsApp Settings > Account > Privacy > Last Seen / Profile Photo / About. This option allows you to exclude some people from seeing your information on WhatsApp. If you have disabled your last seen because of certain contacts, for example, you do not need to set it to “Nobody”: you can now exclude them from seeing your last seen. When you select contacts in Last Seen > My Contacts Except, you won’t be able to see their last seen, as explained in the changelog for the Android update, but this rule does not apply to your about and profile photo.
This feature is currently being rolled out to a select group of beta testers, and it may become available to more users within the next 24 hours.
WhatsApp beta for Android 2.21.23.14 was released four months ago, bringing the ability to choose who can see your information with granular precision. The feature was rolled out to some beta testers, but only a few people were able to use it. Last month WhatsApp rolled out an update in which it received the new voice note player when switching to a different conversation, and the same is true for “My contacts except…” for last seen, about, and profile photo.
It brought the ability to choose to exclude some people from seeing your information if you see this new option in your Privacy Settings. You won’t be able to see their last seen if you exclude some contacts from seeing your last seen. This rule does not apply to your profile photo or your about page.
