Users may now privately mention their contacts in status updates, like other people’s status updates, and reshare a status in which they are mentioned. These new capabilities will be accessible shortly.

WhatsApp new Status features
Users may now discreetly show gratitude for a friend’s status by hitting the green heart button, enabling only the status owner to know who appreciated their WhatsApp status.
With the use of the Private Mentions function, users may privately mention friends in their status updates. Those you mention will be notified privately, and the mention won’t be shown on your status.
“Make sure those closest to you see your status, and let them reshare it easily with their audience, by privately mentioning them,” the company said.

As per WhatsApp these features are now starting to roll out and will be available globally to users soon. In addition to this over the next few months, WhatsApp will also enhance the Status and Updates tab to make it easier to stay connected to those who matter most.
Besides this, WhatsApp is also working on a new spam protection feature to safeguard users from receiving unwanted messages from unwanted accounts. This feature stops messages from being sent by unknown senders by filtering them out under certain conditions. Some beta testers have previously had access to this capability, which has to be manually activated.
