WhatsApp has released voice chats for large groups to everyone. The feature is compatible with iOS and Android users. The functionality allows users to start calls in private without disturbing others in a large group, therefore conversations between individuals are made easier.
WhatsApp took to X to announce that it has started rolling out a voice chat feature for large groups. Also, the feature was revealed by Will Cathcart through his official WhatsApp channel followed by WhatsApp. It is currently available to everyone with the latest versions of WhatsApp for iOS and Android. By introducing this new function WhatsApp is letting users initiate voice chats in group chats without bothering other members of the group. WhatsApp is widely rolling out this functionality to everyone.
After updating to the latest versions of WhatsApp for iOS and Android one can join voice chats at any moment. Users can start one-on-one communication without ringing the other users in the group chat.

The voice chat will automatically finish after 60 minutes if no one joins. Nevertheless, a new voice chat can be started at any time. As mentioned earlier this feature is accessible for large groups with 33 to 128 members. However, Voice Chats was also tested for smaller groups during the beta testing stage.
Note that linked devices do not have access to it. The major benefit of this feature is one can start individual voice chats without ringing all member’s phones in a group. However, another member of the group will receive a silent push notification and those not participating will know who has joined the call directly from the Calls tab and the chat header.
But they may also additionally join and exit the call at any moment. As mentioned other members would know about the active call through push notification but they cannot listen to voice chats. Also to protect the privacy of users voice chats in large groups in WhatsApp are end-to-end encrypted.
