Xiaomi shares a video of its double-folding smartphone

Foldable smartphones are definitely the latest rage in the world of technology. While Samsung and Huawei have already launched Galaxy Fold and Mate X respectively, the next expected foldable device is expected to come from Xiaomi. And now, the Chinese smartphone brand has shared another video of its prototype foldable smartphone.

It is worth mentioning that Xiaomi has not thrown any light on the specifications of the smartphone in the video, but it does confirm that the company is still working on its foldable device. Xiaomi’s foldable prototype smartphone was first showcased in January this year and unlike Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X, it comes with a double-folding design. Although this video does confirm that the company is still serious about its foldable device, we still don’t know when we can expect the device to be launched.

The video was shared by the company on its official profile on Chinese social networking website Weibo and it was then re-uploaded on YouTube. We should mention that the new video does not show anything that is not known about the device yet. If you watch the video, you will be able to see a person using the smartphone in portrait mode when it is unfolded. The person then folds the device from both the sides and places it on top of a box of noodles.

It is worth noticing that there is a slight software lag in changing the orientation of the screen as well as turning the UI from tablet to smartphone mode can be seen in the video. Xiaomi will have to work more on the device to fix these issues before it finally becomes available.

While Samsung and Huawei have already launched their foldable phones and we know about what Xiaomi is planning, we should also add that Apple and Motorola are also working on their respective foldable phones.

In unrelated news, Samsung also published a video of its Galaxy Fold smartphone today, giving the world a first glimpse at what the device looks like when it is folded. The video showed a number of Samsung Galaxy Fold smartphones undergoing stress tests by being folded and unfolded repeatedly.

Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X will also be launching in India, although the timelines for their respective launches are not clear as yet. Samsung Galaxy Fold’s India launch was confirmed to select media on the when the company’s Galaxy S10 series was unveiled in the country.
