After the launch of the selfie-centric smartphones named Redmi Y3, Xiaomi is focusing on its Mi A-series smartphones. The Mi A-series devices were one of the most popular smartphones launched by the company due to its Android One software experience. The Android One UI puts the stock Android experience over the smartphones, and needless to say, it is very popular. Other than that, the Android One device receives fast software updates, security patches and other similar updates. The last Mi A-series device, the Mi A2 was launched back in 2018 and now the company is expected to launch the next smartphones in the same series. The Mi A3 and the Mi A3 Lite is expected to be launched by the company later this year. And rumours have already started pouring in as it is expected that the handset will be powered by the Snapdragon 700-series processors.

According to the XDA Developers, the rumours are based on the source code information of Xiaomi. It reports that the new Xiaomi smartphones could have codenames such as “Bamboo_Sprout”, “Cosmos Sprout” and “Pyxis”. Currently, they are in development and will be powered by the Snapdragon 700-series of CPUs. The ‘Sprout’ codenames could be referred to the Mi A-series devices (Mi A3 and the Mi A3 Lite) as in the past the Mi A-series devices held the ‘Sprout’ codenames. But more information about the ‘Pyxis’ named device is currently not known.

The Mi A3 might be launched as Mi 7X in the Chinese market, much like Mi A1 and the Mi A2 which were launched as Mi 5X and Mi 6X in China.

Other than that, since Mi A3 will be the successor of the Mi A2 it should have better and higher specifications than its predecessor. To take into account, the Mi A2 was powered by the Snapdragon 660 while the Mi A1 was powered by the Snapdragon 625 SoC. So, the use of Snapdragon 700-series SoCs in the Mi A3 comes as a surprise as those CPUs are aimed at a mid-range smartphone below the flagship ones. While the Snapdragon 600-series processors are the true mid-range CPUs as they were used in the earlier Redmi Note 7 and even the Redmi Note 7 Pro. So, using the Snapdragon 700-series CPUs in the Mi A3 could mean a rise in its performance as well as the price tag of the device.
