Apple and Google team up: Gemini is coming to Siri

If you have been waiting for Gemini-powered Siri to finally feel like the assistant Apple teased at WWDC 2024, this announcement is the biggest sign yet that the long pause is turning into a proper push. Apple and Google say they have entered a multi-year collaboration where the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be based on Google’s Gemini models and cloud technology. The aim is to unlock future Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalised Siri expected later this year (2026).

What was announced, in simple terms

This is not “Siri is now Google.” It is closer to: Apple is choosing a powerful underlying AI foundation and pairing it with its own system-level design.

Apple says it evaluated options and decided Google’s AI technology offered the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models. At the same time, Apple says Apple Intelligence will continue to run on Apple devices and through Private Cloud Compute, with its privacy standards intact.

Call it the Apple Google AI deal that wants two things at once: better answers and fewer privacy headaches.

Why the timing matters

Apple showcased a more capable Siri at WWDC 2024, hinting at features that sounded genuinely useful, not just flashy:

  • Understanding personal context to answer questions more naturally

  • Taking precise actions in apps, not just opening them

  • Handling follow-ups without making you repeat every detail

But the rollout has felt slower than a Monday morning software update. Reports over the past year have suggested the personalised Siri upgrade needed more time, with expectations sliding into 2026. This partnership reads like a strategic shortcut: borrow proven AI infrastructure, then ship the experience in Apple’s style.

What “Apple Foundation Models” means for users

Foundation models are the big brains that power smaller, user-facing skills. They are the reason an assistant can summarise, rewrite, reason, and act. If the foundation is stronger, the features built on top usually become:

  • More accurate with fewer weird guesses

  • Better at multi-step requests

  • More consistent across topics and languages

In practical terms, the Apple Foundation Models shift could show up as Siri being less of a “voice remote” and more of a reliable daily tool.

The privacy promise, and what it implies

Apple is clearly trying to keep the privacy narrative clean. The company says Apple Intelligence will keep running on-device where possible, and use Private Cloud Compute when heavier processing is needed.

That matters because “more personalised” can sound like “more data-hungry” to the average user. Apple’s message is essentially: personalisation is not an excuse for sloppy data handling. This is the Apple Intelligence privacy angle in one line: smarter does not have to mean nosier.

What we still do not know (yet)

Even with a big headline, the fine print is still missing. Key unanswered questions include:

  • Which Siri requests will rely on Gemini-backed foundation layers versus Apple-built models

  • How the experience will be explained to users inside settings and permissions

  • Whether the integration changes anything across regions, languages, or devices

  • How much of this is “cloud-first” versus “device-first” in real-world use

And yes, people will ask about money. There has been reporting about large annual payments and model scale, but the companies have not publicly confirmed commercial terms in detail.

This partnership feels less like a surprise friendship and more like a deadline decision. If Apple can ship a genuinely helpful, genuinely personal Siri in 2026 without turning privacy into a footnote, most users will not care whose tech helped under the hood. They will just be happy Siri finally stops playing catch-up.

Oppo recently announced the release of two new ecosystem products with the Reno15 Series: the Oppo Pad 5 and the Oppo Enco Buds 3 Pro+. Both new devices are scheduled to go on sale in India today. The Pad 5 features a 10,050 mAh battery and a 12.1-inch display. It is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300 Ultra SoC. The earbuds come with 12.4 mm dynamic drivers.

Price in India, Availability

The Oppo Pad 5 is available in two storage configurations: the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model, priced at Rs 26,999, and the more advanced 8GB RAM with 256GB storage, which has 5G capabilities and costs Rs 32,999. In conjunction with this release, the Oppo Enco Buds3 Pro+ will be available for Rs 2,499 via the OPPO e-store, Flipkart, Amazon, and other mainstream stores.

The Oppo Pad 5 runs ColorOS 16, which is based on Android 16. The tablet has a powerful octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Ultra processor with an Arm Mali-G615 MC2 GPU. This powerful combination is backed by 8GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 256GB of swift UFS 3.1 internal storage. These components work together to provide strong performance that can handle a wide range of tasks and meet the demands of multiple applications.

The tablet’s 12.1-inch LCD screen has a resolution of 2.8K (2,800×1,980 pixels). It offers a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and has an outstanding touch sampling rate of up to 540 Hz. Furthermore, it supports 98% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, delivering vibrant, accurate colour reproduction. The screen can reach a maximum brightness of 900 nits and has a pixel density of 284 pixels per inch (ppi).

The Oppo Pad 5 has only one 8-megapixel rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture, a 77-degree field of view, and focusing capabilities. For selfies and video conferencing, it has an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture. The tablet can record video at a quality of up to 1080p, which allows for 30 frames per second.

The tablet comes with a powerful 10,050 mAh battery that supports 33 W SuperVOOC wired fast charging for speedy recharges. It incorporates various sensors for increased functionality, including an ambient light sensor, a colour temperature sensor, an e-compass, an accelerometer, a Hall sensor, and a proximity sensor. The gadget supports the latest connectivity standards, including Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, and a USB Type-C connector.

It has a fast refresh rate of 120 Hz, a peak brightness of 1,800 nits, and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The Reno 15 Pro Mini 5G, on the other hand, has a smaller 6.32-inch LTPS AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1,216 x 2,640 pixels (1.5K), but it has the same refresh rate and peak brightness. Corning Gorilla Glass 7 protects this gadget, making it strong and scratch-resistant. The base model has a 6.59-inch LTPS AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1,256 x 2,760 pixels. It has a 120 Hz refresh rate for sharper images, a peak brightness of 1,200 nits, and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection, which makes it durable enough for daily use.

ColorOS 16, which is based on Android 16, comes with all of the phones. The basic model, on the other hand, has a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 CPU, up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

The Oppo Reno 15 Pro 5G and Reno 15 Pro Mini 5G both include advanced triple rear camera systems that are said to greatly improve the quality of photos. Both versions feature a 200-megapixel main camera that features optical image stabilisation (OIS) and phase detection autofocus (PDAF). This feature makes sure that pictures are clear and well-focused even in tough settings. A 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens with a 116-degree field of view adds to this. Over the years, CES has carved out a special place for automotive tech, where big automakers are given a platform to unveil and release their newest offerings. In 2026, automotive tech at CES was all about concept cars, AI assistants, and in-cabin tech. Here are some of our favourite showcases from this year.

Sony Afeela 1

Sony Afeela 1

Made in collaboration with Sony and Honda, the Afeela 1 prototype made its debut at CES 2023. Last year, Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) showcased the pre-production model. This year, SHM displayed a new Afeela Prototype alongside the updated version of the Afeela 1 pre-production model. The Afeela 1 is set to reach customers by the end of the year, fetching $89,900. It will come in 3 colours – Tidal Gray, Calm White, and Core Black. While its sales are currently limited to California, SHM plans to expand to Arizona in 2027. It will also start delivering to Japan in early 2027. The new Afeela Prototype SUV will be ready for launch in 2028.

The personal assistant reaffirms the automaker’s guiding principle of ‘Hands on the Wheel, Eyes on the Road’. It is integrated with Amazon Alexa+, which helps it carry out natural conversations with the driver and passengers. BMW is the first automaker to collaborate with Amazon and bring Alexa+ to its platform.

NVIDIA is one of the big players tackling the challenges presented by autonomous driving. It unveiled the Alpamayo 1 at CES 2026, the industry’s first chain-of-thought reasoning Vision Action Language (VLA) model. This model has a 10-billion-parameter architecture, which enables it to assess visual input and generate trajectories and reasoning traces. Developers can use this model to create reasoning-based evaluators and auto-labelling systems. The Alpamayo will bring human-like thinking to Autonomous Vehicles (AV), making the decision-making process more accurate and reasonable.

Garmin and Meta came together to show an automotive OEM proof of concept that combines the Neural Band (Meta) with Unified Cabin (Garmin). The result is a product that allows passengers to control the infotainment functions of their car using simple hand gestures made by the thumb, index, and middle fingers. The Neural Band’s EMG technology to detect these gestures while the Unified Cabin uses them for novel in-cabin experiences. Some of Unified Cabin’s features include Digital key, AI Virtual Assistant capable of executing multiple actions from one voice command, Cabin Chat, Cabin Lighting Show, and Personal Audio Sphere

At CES 2026, it had five different exhibit areas showcasing its products. But what caught our attention was its next-generation Full Display Mirror (FDM). It delivers sharper images and detailed visuals using its 8MP HD camera and upgraded display. The 4K footage captured by the camera allows the display to zoom in without losing much detail. The Dynamic View Adjustment (DVA) feature enables speed-optimised POV, zooming out for a wider visual at slow speeds and zooming in for precision at high speeds. Reversing the vehicle gives you a downward view in the mirror, making it easier to park your car.

It retains 90% of its capacity in extreme temperatures of –30°C and 100°C. Donut Labs has paid special attention to the safety of this battery, using no flammable liquid electrolytes, thermal runaway chains, or metallic dendrites.
