OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z3 Review: Still at the top of its game

Despite a well-established budget TWS segment, wireless neckbands still enjoy a lot of popularity in India. The primary driver behind the success of neckbands is their reliable form factor. While wireless earbuds are prone to dislodgement, neckbands stay put around the neck. As far as the audio quality goes, a good neckband still outperforms most entry-level wireless earbuds. OnePlus’s ‘Bullets’ series commands a significant neckband market share. The latest iteration in the series, Bullets Z3, is currently priced at Rs 1,699. We used it for a week to find out how it stacks up against budget TWS products. Here’s our in-depth review of the OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z3.

OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z3 Review: Design

Here’s what you get inside the OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z3’s retail package:

The design of the OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z3 is identical to its predecessor, Z3. It has an all-plastic body, but the build quality is premium. The plastic band is elastic and pliable. It has a soft matte finish and does not itch against the neck when worn for multiple hours. The two plastic stems also have a matte finish. The left stem houses the volume rocker keys with a multi-function button placed in the middle. There is a small LED indicator up top and a USB Type-C port for charging on the side. This port does not have a lid, something we found quite odd. The right stem is engraved with the OnePlus lettering and logo. It is completely buttonless.

OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z3 Review: Design

The earbuds follow the traditional in-ear design language. There are two things about these earbuds that make them a clear winner in our book. The first is their compact size. This makes them incredibly comfortable to wear for multiple hours on end. The ear fatigue is minimal, and they do not cause any abrasion to the inner walls of the ear. Secondly, the inner panel of the earbuds have a matte finish. This ensures that the buds don’t slide out in sweaty conditions. Most entry-level truly wireless earbuds are completely glossy, so it is nice to see OnePlus offer something more useful.

design

A good fit in sweaty conditions is necessary if you intend to wear the neckband while working out. The OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z3 passes this test with flying colours. Furthermore, the neckband is rated IP55 for dust and water resistance. We wore it while hiking and running, and were pleased to see that its performance remained unfazed even after exposure to sweat.

OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z3 Review: Performance

Two 12.4mm dynamic drivers generate the audio output on the Bullets Wireless Z3. The neckband is equipped with Bluetooth 5.4. Pairing it to a smartphone is easy with Google Fast Pair onboard. Long-pressing the multi-function button puts the neckband into pairing mode. There is no dedicated on/off button or switch. The earbuds shut down after locking with each other magnetically.

OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z3 Review: performance

The soundstage of the Bullets Z3 neckband is vast and expansive. While the low-range frequencies get a lot of space, they don’t cloud over the mid and the highs. The bass is delicious and makes the listening experience more enjoyable. We played genres like classic rock, pop, and heavy metal while using this neckband, and it handled all of them very well. We were happy with the intensity of the audio output, too. Even at high volume levels, the output was composed and free of distortion.

There are 5 equaliser profiles to choose from – Balanced (Default), Serenade, Bass, and Bold. Additionally, you can use the ‘BassWave’ function to adjust the intensity of the bass output on each profile. There is no option to create a customised equaliser profile. There is OnePlus 3D Audio onboard, but you need to play compatible media to fully feel its effect. These features can be accessed natively on a OnePlus smartphone, but you will need to install the HeyMelody app to use them on other devices.

controls

The calling experience offered by the Bullets Wireless Z3 neckband is superior to most entry-level earbuds. In indoor conditions, the lone microphone on the right stem does a great job of picking up the voice of the speaker and curbing the background noise. In noisy outdoor conditions, the AI Call Noise Cancellation tech does a good job of extracting the voice of the speaker from the surrounding noise and relaying it to the listener.

The 220mAh battery pack on this neckband puts up a versatile performance. If you don’t go past the 50% volume mark, you can get a solid 36-hour battery life. We got 30 hours of battery life from the neckband with the volume level between 80-100% at all times. A quick 10-minute charge can power the neckband for 27 hours, which is simply amazing.

There are a couple of absent features on the Bullets Wireless Z3 that keep it from being the perfect neckband. A dedicated gaming mode is perhaps the biggest omission. While playing FPS titles like Call of Duty Mobile and BGMI, some latency creeps into the gameplay. The other missing feature is Active Noise Cancellation, but the good news is that OnePlus will likely launch an ANC version of this neckband in the coming months.

Verdict

After using the OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z3 for a week, we can safely say that it is still one of the best neckbands in its segment. Its audio output is superior to most of its TWS peers. The soundstage is expansive and vibrant. If you’re strictly concerned with the quality of the sound, the Bullets Z3 is a no-brainer purchase. But that’s not all. The call quality produced by this neckband in outdoor conditions is equally impressive. What seals the deal for us is the 36-hour battery life and quick charge support. While ANC and low-latency mode are significant misses, the affordable price tag of Rs 1,699 makes up for them.

Google is providing a free battery replacement to Pixel 6a consumers in India who have recently encountered issues. To address overheating concerns, the business will also release an update that reduces performance and charging speed. The update will limit battery use on the Pixel 6a model, making it necessary for the majority of customers. The offer is likely to fix the phone’s overheating problem.

For Pixel 6a customers who are having problems with battery loss and overheating, Google is providing free battery replacements or compensation. In order to increase energy efficiency and lower the danger of overheating, the corporation will also make the Android 16 upgrade necessary.

“All Pixel 6a devices will receive a mandatory automatic software update to Android 16, with roll-out starting July 8 2025, but only Impacted Devices will receive the battery management features. Some users will see changes sooner than others because the battery management features activate only after an Impacted Device reaches 400 charge cycles.”

The Pixel 6a will get an automated upgrade on July 8, 2025, and it will restart on its own. Although it only becomes active after 400 charge cycles, the update adds additional battery management options for affected devices to lessen the possibility of overheating. When the battery reaches 375 cycles, these devices will get a reminder notification. Users may experience decreased charging performance and lower battery life between charges if the functionality is activated. The phone’s battery-level indicator will also be tweaked with the upgrade.

Starting on July 21, the Pixel 6a battery will be replaced at no additional cost. The replacement will be offered to consumers in the US and India via mail-in repair as well as walk-in repair facilities in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, Singapore, Japan, and India. Soon, more battery replacement capabilities should be available in Australia, France, Japan, and some regions of Europe. Only in areas that qualify and while battery supplies remain may batteries be replaced.

iQOO 13 new colour variant launched in India

iQOO 13 now comes in a third colour variant. The company has introduced the new colour model after it was introduced last in December. It was formerly offered in two colours. The device has a BOE Q10 2K 144Hz Ultra Eyecare display and a massive 6000mAh battery with 120W ultra-fast charging support. The phone comes equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC and runs on OriginOS 5 with Android 15.

iQOO 13 new colour variant availability details

In India, the iQOO 13 will now be available in three colours. When the gadget was released in December 2024, it was available in Nardo Grey and Legend Edition colours, but it now also comes in a third colour option, the new Ace Green. The new colour options will be available for purchase beginning July 12 at noon on the company’s official website and Amazon.

iQOO 13 was launched in India at Rs 54,999 for the 12GB RAM with 256GB storage variant and Rs 59,999 for the 16GB RAM with 512GB storage option.

iQOO 13 Specifications

The iQOO 13 features a 6.82-inch 2K BOE Q10 8T LTPO 2.0 OLED display with 1,440 x 3,168 pixels of resolution. The display has up to a 144Hz refresh rate and HDR support. The device comes with a Monster Halo lighting effect around the rear camera panel that is customisable. The phone is water and dust-resistant, having IP68 and IP69 classifications and Schott Xensation Alpha display protection for the display.

Under the hood, there is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC (which has an excellent AnTuTu score of over 3 million) with up to 16GB LPDDR5x RAM and 1TB UFS 4.0 storage. The smartphone comes pre-installed with OriginOS 5 with Android 15 out of the box, and 4+5 years of security updates.

It has a Supercomputing Chip Q2, 2K Game Super Resolution, 144 FPS game frame interpolation, and a 7000mm² VC Cooling System for the best gaming experience. Touch Sampling adjustment, Network switch option, Game Small Window function, and FPS meter are all new features in the redesigned Ultra Game Mode UI.

OnePlus Nord 5 Series India launch date announced

OnePlus has officially revealed the India launch date for the Nord 5 Series. The upcoming mid-range series is set to arrive in the country next week. The company has confirmed to bring two devices, the OnePlus Nord 5 and Nord CE 5. In addition to revealing the launch date, the firm has also shared the availability details of the upcoming lineup. In addition to the smartphone, the company will also launch its new audio product, OnePlus Buds 4.

OnePlus Nord 5 and Nord CE 5 India launch is scheduled to take place on July 8. The OnePlus Nord 5 is set to go on sale on July 9 at 12 PM IST (Indian Standard Time). On the other hand, Nord CE 5 is going to be available for purchase on July 12 at midnight IST. Both devices will be sold via oneplus.in, Amazon, and offline retail stores in the country. Along with handsets, the company has also confirmed to bring next-gen OnePlus Buds 4 TWS.

The OnePlus Nord CE5 will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Apex chipset, which has an octa-core CPU architecture with four high-performance Cortex-A715 cores and four power-efficient cores. It also features a 6-core Mali-G615 GPU for graphics, which improves speed and energy efficiency. The gadget will include next-generation LPDDR5X RAM, ensuring consistent power across several applications. With an AnTuTu score of almost 1.47 million, it is regarded as the best performance in its category.

The smartphone’s battery is said to be 7,100 mAh. It has a multi-day battery life on a single charge, letting users be connected, engaged, and productive without continuously needing a charger. The gadget supports 80W SUPERVOOC fast charging, which enables it to charge from 1% to 100% in 59 minutes. A ten-minute charge may deliver more than six hours of YouTube entertainment. The phone will feature Battery Health Magic, a system-level charging management technology, to keep the battery stable and extend its life. It also has Bypass Charging, a power optimisation technique that takes power from the charger rather than the battery, lowering heat generation, minimising battery wear, and increasing battery lifespan.

Spotify’s presence can be seen across Instagram. The social media platform allows users to add background music to their stories, posts, and reels using Spotify. Previously, you could share a song independently on your story, but only as a link. This meant that people viewing your story could not listen to a snippet of the song. Instagram has changed this by rolling out the new song-sharing feature.

If you want to share a standalone song on the platform, you have other options too. You can add a song to your profile and curate a unique experience while users glance through your posts. The ‘Notes’ feature in DMs lets you share your favourite song snippets with your followers. You can also choose to share your live music-listening activity on Notes. This requires linking your Spotify account to Instagram. When you move to a new song on Spotify, the change is reflected in IG notes.

Telegram brings new monetisation and other features to creators

Telegram, an instant messaging app, has added new features like collaborative checklists, suggested posts, and better monetisation possibilities for creators. These enhancements improve task tracking, incentivise content production, and give creators direct revenue inside the Telegram ecosystem, all while protecting user privacy.

Premium users can now build collaborative checklists in chats to monitor tasks, coordinate teams, and manage shopping and to-do lists, with adaptive permissions allowing them to regulate task completion and item addition.

To create a checklist, go to the attachment menu and select ‘Checklist’. You may send checklists to groups, have one-on-one conversations, and save messages.

Telegram users may now submit content to their favourite channels as suggested posts using an automated interface. These posts might include fan art, promotional videos, and product reviews. Users can specify the date and time for the post, or let the channel owner select. While sending a direct message, tap the icon in the message bar to make a post.

When suggesting a post, you may offer the owner Telegram Stars or Toncoin in return for posting the message. Toncoin may be added to your Telegram account using Fragment for bigger transactions, while Stars can be purchased in bulk through Fragment and @PremiumBot for desktop users or those who do not have Apple or Google Pay. The channel owner receives the payment 24 hours after publishing, and Telegram automatically refunds the entire amount.

Telegram provides suggested posts for channels to crowdsource content and engage in affiliate marketing, therefore safeguarding creators from fraud and maintaining anonymity. You Can Forget Smurfs – AI Detection is Changing the Ranked Play

‘Smurfing,’ the word that comes from the carefree blue cult cartoon characters, couldn’t be a more misleading term to describe fake ‘noob’ accounts. However, this is gaming, and almost anything can be traced back to a few bored players or devs who wanted to make the experience more fun, even though it ended up creating a scenario where you innocently join a Counter-Strike server and get a headshot in seconds.

It’s all fun and games until it becomes a popular prank high-ranked players pull on lower-ranked ones, and even an issue in amateur esports competitions where the former would join and unfairly get all the cash prizes. It has always been an issue, and it still is, even though games have tried implementing anti-smurfing rules and systems that have made a somewhat different but are still easy to bypass.

The line between strict rules and morally wrong, but still technically ok behaviour tends to blend when it comes to smurfing, and here is where AI comes in to save the day and even the field.

The Real Problem of Smurfing

The Origin of Smurfing dates back to 1997, when two Warcraft players, Shlonglor and Warp, became so good that no one wanted to play against them. The solution? Open two new accounts, innocently name them ‘Papa Smurf’ and ‘Smurffete’ and wait for whoever picked up the bait.

There was nothing wrong with it until other games picked it up, and expanded beyond control when automatic matchmaking systems made it so that a pro could easily end up undetected in your game, to the point that you had to be aware if a name in the server sounded too funny or random. Technically, it’s not forbidden to want to play with your noob friends or just enjoy the game at an easy level. Morally, it’s debatable; not everyone agrees on what is right and wrong, and there’s even solid research to back this all up!

PhD student Charles Monge and Prof. Nicholas Matthews conducted a study of 328 people. They found that 69% reported that they smurfed at least sometimes, 94% thought other people smurf sometimes, but the main takeaway was that players thought there were different nuances of bad for smurfing, and it was ok when they did, but turned toxic if others did it!

Other studies were also conducted, yielding similar results and expanding the concept beyond gaming into a real-life scenario of pointing fingers. Thus, it was clear that the problem with smurfing lies with the people; therefore, the solution must be sought by the companies, or so we thought.

Valve did an impressive job of banning over 90,000 smurf accounts in their game DOTA2, declaring that Smurfing is objectively against the rules. Other games, like Valoras, the free online shooter, make it so easy to access that you only need an email account, leaving complete free rein to smurfing. Riot, the company behind the game, was initially not interested at all and did not even consider it a problem. It all starts to make sense when you consider how popular the game became by Pro players posting smurfing sessions, annihilating lower-ranked players on YouTube as a gag.

How do you get this situation under control if the cause-and-effect blends in, and most people swing from one side to the other of the argument? You get the hint that this is where AI kicks in.

Let the Machine Be the Judge

Getting back to Riot, once Smurfing had been acknowledged as a problem, the developers applied a machine learning-backed system as early as 2022 to detect smurfing. The system analyses the players’ behaviour in-game and automatically identifies Smurf accounts. While not perfect, it produced results. According to them,  alternate accounts are down ~17% compared to earlier in the year.

BattleEye and FairFight are good examples of AI-backed anti-cheating systems used in PUBG and Rainbow Six. While they are still struggling to deal with Smurfing, in theory, they could adapt these systems to address the issue by using machine learning models to track metrics such as win rates, reaction times, and decision-making speed, along with account parameters like the date it was created.

Blizzard had long used players’ gameplay data in the Matchmaking system in Overwatch 2. How they do it is pretty ingenious. The game employs a hidden numerical Matchmaking Rating (MMR) as its primary tool for quantifying a player’s skill level relative to the entire player base. The visible rank displayed to players, such as “Gold 3,” is not directly factored into the actual match creation process.

Slowly but surely, Blizzard is starting to introduce more AI to the process in direct ways, but also subtly by deciding that the first five rounds of the game will be against AI models.

It’s Never as Easy as It Seems

AI systems are not perfect, and there have been multiple cases of players getting banned unfairly. In the case of smurfing, it becomes even trickier, as technical problems behind detecting players are not the only reasons that make it hard for companies.

Only in 2025 did Riot state that they are considering using digital ID verification for new accounts, which would significantly help address the issue of alternate accounts. The technology was available long ago, but it could have players spend less time in the game or find it challenging to open accounts; both scenarios that the devs do not want to happen.

Another factor to consider is the player’s age. Legally, it would be challenging to handle a scenario where an underage player needs to provide identification, a significant factor that tends to push companies towards ignoring smurfing issues. Additionally, acquiring as many players as possible and encouraging them to engage with microtransactions proved to be a successful model that no one would dare risk.

Is There a Way Out?

The issue addressed would result in a fairer outcome for everyone, not just competitive gamers. It’s no fun casually opening League of Legends after a hard day’s work and spending that hard-fought extra hour before sleep getting bullied out of the game.

However, it seems that smurfing is a problem that depends on context, with both pro players and developers finding an advantage to it, while AI systems, implemented to support existing anti-cheat mechanisms, only partially work. What would then be another scenario that doesn’t eliminate AI but allows it to have more transparency and a ‘softer’ touch?

Perhaps giving the AI more independence, in the form of it turning into an AI companion that studies the player’s behaviour in a one-to-one scenario and can recognise the patterns among millions of players. Independent of the account, it would know the players behind the controller. Another use would be for the AI to evolve into a coaching tool that follows the player, learn about them and their behaviour, and if a loss was due to smurfing and not poor performance, contextualises and reports it automatically.

If it sounds too optimistic, keep in mind that companies like Candy AI have already successfully built AI girlfriend models that have emotional connections to humans and have cracked a big part of the puzzle of making companions work.

Nonetheless, the future of solving the smurfing issue is undoubtedly related to AI, and all the new tech will smoothly find its way into balancing out the situation. Whether that will be for the gamer or the companies’ interest is still to be seen.
