WWDC25: Apple’s latest iOS 26 brings a lot of improvements, a new Liquid Glass design and more

Apple has launched iOS 26, which has a new Liquid Glass design and improved AI capabilities. The new design language, Liquid Glass, incorporates glass-like iconography among other features. The software upgrade for iPhone 11 and later devices will bring Live Translation to the Phone, FaceTime, and Messages apps, and it will be accessible to registered developers beginning today. The most recent version of iOS will also bring Apple Intelligence capabilities, an enhanced Camera app layout, a unified interface in the Phone app, CarPlay, Apple Music, Maps, Wallet, and other enhancements.

Liquid Glass Design

The Liquid Glass design improves app and system experiences by focussing on content and injecting fresh vibrancy into controls, navigation, app icons, and widgets. This transparent texture extends to the Home Screen and Lock Screen, making them more personalised and expressive. Furthermore, Liquid Glass provides additional customisation possibilities for app icons and widgets, including a gorgeous clean appearance.

Apple updated its Lock Screen to adapt to image space and add 3D effects to wallpapers when users move their iPhone. The Photos app now has distinct tabs for Library and Collections views, while Safari now lets web pages flow from top to bottom of the screen. The tab bar in Apple Music, News, and Podcasts has been revamped to float above users’ content, decrease dynamically when browsing, and grow when scrolling up again.

Unified Layout

iOS 26 introduces a unified interface for the iPhone’s Phone app, consolidating Favourites, Recents, and Voicemail. Call Screening gathers caller information to assist users in deciding whether to answer or ignore a call. Hold Assist alerts users when a live agent is available, delivering a smooth iPhone experience with fewer interruptions.

iOS 26 adds additional functionality to Messages, allowing users to screen messages from unknown senders, label them as known, request further information, or delete them. These messages stay silent until they are approved. Messages now has unique backgrounds and the ability to generate polls using Apple Intelligence. Image Playground allows users to create unique backdrops. Users may now see typing indicators in group conversations while also requesting, sending, and receiving Apple Cash.

Apple Intelligence Capabilities

With iOS 26, Apple Intelligence improves the iPhone experience by improving communication and screen utilisation. Live Translation is incorporated into Messages, FaceTime, and Phone, allowing users to connect in several languages. This functionality is enabled by Apple-built models that operate solely on the device, guaranteeing that personal chats stay private.

Apple’s visual intelligence extends to iPhone displays, allowing users to search and act on content from several apps. Users may ask ChatGPT questions about what they are watching, search for comparable photos and things on Google, Etsy, or other compatible applications, and recognise when an event is being seen, recommending that it be added to their calendar with important details.

Apple has released Genmoji and Image Playground, which enable users to express themselves by mixing emojis, Genmoji, and descriptions. Furthermore, Apple Intelligence has enabled intelligent actions, which include specific actions for features such as Writing Tools and Image Playground, making shortcuts more powerful and smarter.

Apple Intelligence now sends order tracking information and progress messages to users via email from merchants and delivery companies, even for transactions made without Apple Pay. The Foundation Models framework enables apps to access the on-device foundation model, offering developers with rapid, privacy-focused information that can be utilised offline. This AI inference is free of charge and accessible via a new framework.

New CarPlay Features

CarPlay has been upgraded to iOS 26 to improve the user experience. The new design includes a condensed display of incoming calls, allowing users to know who is calling without missing critical information. Tapbacks and pinned conversations have also been introduced to CarPlay’s Messages, and widgets and Live Activities keep users engaged while driving. CarPlay Ultra provides a unified experience, integrating the best of iPhone and automobile technologies across all screens.

Apple Music

Apple Music has Lyrics Translation and Pronunciation, allowing listeners to sing along regardless of language, and AutoMix employs intelligence to effortlessly segue between tracks, much like a DJ, employing time stretching and beat matching.

Apple Wallet

Apple Wallet has been improved to make daily interactions with the real world easier. Apple Pay for iPhone allows users to pay for in-store purchases in installments or with rewards. Refreshed boarding cards provide real-time flight updates and access to the most crucial information for travellers, such as Maps for airport navigation and Find My for monitoring vital things and reporting lost luggage.

Apple Maps now includes Visited Places, which allows users to recall previously visited locations. iPhones can recognise when users are at a specific place and display all Visited Places in Maps. Apple has no access to these locations since they are encrypted from beginning to end. The iPhone also employs on-device intelligence to analyse users’ everyday itineraries, recommending recommended routes, notifying of delays, and proposing other possibilities.

Apple Games, AirPods, Safari and more

Apple Games is a new app that provides an all-in-one destination for gamers to enjoy their favourite games, discover new favourites, and spend more time with friends. It gives information on significant events and upgrades across all games, and it is the greatest way to experience Apple Arcade, Apple’s gaming subscription service that includes over 200 award-winning and highly rated games for the entire family.

AirPods 4 and Pro 2 now support studio-quality audio recording, voice isolation, and ANC on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The camera remote lets users capture images or start and stop video recordings on their iPhone or iPad by touching and holding the AirPod stem. This increases the adaptability of the AirPods technology.

Parents may now establish or move kids to Child Accounts with improved controls to guarantee their safety. These safeguards include communication restrictions, communication safety, and the App Store. Parents may authorise contact requests, obscure sensitive information in FaceTime talks and photographs, and make exceptions for installing applications with age ratings that exceed their specified content limitations.

Safari now includes sophisticated fingerprinting protection for all surfing by default, while Accessibility Reader provides a personalised systemwide reading experience and Braille Access for iPhone devices with linked displays. Apple has taken the wraps off the macOS Tahoe 26 at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2025. The new nomenclature brings uniformity across all Apple devices. macOS Tahoe 26 incorporates the company’s new ‘Liquid Glass’ design language and adds new Continuity and Apple Intelligence features, along with other updates.

What’s new on macOS Tahoe 26?

Apple’s new ‘Liquid Glass’ design language brings a layered aesthetic to macOS Tahoe 26. Its translucent effect makes it reflect and refract its surroundings. This design language can be seen in the Dock, sidebars, toolbars, app icons, folders, widgets and more elements. The menu bar is completely transparent and can be further customised from the Control Center. Users can also change the colours of the folders and assign them emojis to make them stand out.

What’s new on macOS Tahoe 26?

The Continuity features on macOS 26 get a big upgrade. The OS marks the debut of the Phone app on the platform. It will relay the calls from the user’s iPhone to their Mac. It’ll also allow the user to go through their contacts, recent calls, and voicemails. New iOS 26 features like Call Screening and Hold Assist will also be present on the Phone app for macOS 26. Live Activities will now appear on the menu. Once an activity is selected, it’ll open in iPhone Mirroring.

Spotlight gets its biggest update to date on macOS 26. When a search query is entered, Spotlight intelligently ranks all results, including files, folders, events, apps, messages, and more, based on their relevance to the user. There are filtering options to narrow down the search. Spotlight can also look into the user’s third-party cloud drives. Additionally, users can take in-app actions directly from Spotlight. This includes native and third-party apps. Lastly, Spotlight can recognise shortened strings, which saves the hassle of typing an entire keyword. For example, instead of typing ‘add reminder’, users can simply enter ‘ar’.

What’s new on macOS Tahoe 26?

Apple Intelligence gets a boost in macOS 26. The Shorcuts app can access AI features like Writing Tools and Image Playground. Live Translation is now supported by Messages and FaceTime. Users can also customise the personal attributes in Genmoji and Image Playground. Reminders are intelligently categorised into sections to make them more manageable.

Final Thoughts

Other minor changes on macOS 26 include a facelifted Safari app, Polls and group typing indicators in Messages, a new Journal app, Magnifier, and more. Apple will release macOS 26 as a free software update this fall. Its first Public Beta version will go live next month.

What’s new on watchOS 26?

The new ‘Liquid Glass’ design language brings a new look to the watchOS 26. Its translucent material reflects and refracts its surroundings, giving the content more room on the screen. It is integrated into Smart Stack widgets, Smart Stack hints, notifications, Control Center, and in-app controls and navigation. The numerals in the Photos watch face will showcase the translucent design as well.

What’s new on watchOS 26?

The Workout app on watchOS 26 has been updated with Workout Buddy – an Apple Intelligence feature that analyses the user’s workout data and fitness history to generate motivational insights tailored to their workout session. It also keeps track of the workout metrics and reminds the user of key stats and milestones. The stats are recapped at the end of the session. Workout Buddy requires an Apple Intelligence-supported iPhone nearby. It will be available in popular workout types like Outdoor and Indoor Run, Outdoor and Indoor Walk, Outdoor Cycle, HIIT, and Functional and Traditional Strength Training.

The layout of the Workout app has been tweaked to make its features more accessible. Users can now access custom workouts and set up Apple Music on the main page of the app. Based on the workout type, Apple Music can select the relevant playlist. It also recommends playlists and podcasts based on the user’s listening history in that workout type.

The Smart Stack helps users access key information directly on the watch face. It now incorporates the Liquid Glass design. Apple has also improved its prediction algorithms by incorporating more contextual data, sensor data, and data from a user’s routine. This makes the Smart Stacks hints more useful and relevant to the user’s current status.

In line with iOS 26, the watchOS 26 gets Live Translation in the Messages app. This feature requires an Apple Intelligence-supported iPhone. The incoming texts are automatically translated into the user’s preferred language. The texts sent by the user are also translated for the receiver. Live Translation will be made available on Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Series 10, and Apple Watch Ultra 2.

watchOS 26 makes notifications easier to manage. If the user is tied up in other tasks, they can simply flick their wrist to dismiss any incoming notification. It can also be used to dismiss incoming calls and silence timers and alarms. The wrist movement is analysed by a machine learning model using the data from the accelerometer and the gyroscope.

Final Thoughts

Other additions to the watchOS include the Notes app, Live Listen (for users with hearing disabilities), Hold Assist and Call Screening, and a redesigned watch face gallery. As mentioned earlier, the watchOS 26 will debut on the Apple Watch Series 11 this fall. Its Public Beta version will be rolled out next month.

The Alpha 3 is ideal for dodging rain, working out at the gym, or managing calls.

The smartwatch provides 24/7 heart rate tracking, SpO₂ monitoring, sleep analysis, and activity stats from the wrist. It includes more than 100 sports modes and 150 watch faces for fitness enthusiasts. In addition, the device has an AI voice assistant, quick call and message notifications, and a 1-year guarantee.

Noise Buds F1 Review: A no-nonsense TWS at a very affordable price

Noise’s latest budget TWS offering cuts the bells and whistles to focus on the essentials – a comfortable form factor and an enjoyable soundstage. The Buds F1 are priced at Rs 1,099. A few years ago, you’d be hard pressed to find a good pair of wireless earbuds in this price bracket. However, the rise of audio tech outfits like Noise, Truke, and boAt has rejuvenated the segment with exciting products that perform way above their pay grade. We used the Noise Buds F1 for a week, here is our review of the TWS.

Noise Buds F1 Review: Design

Here’s what you get inside the Noise Buds F1’s retail package:

  • User manual and warranty registration booklet

The plastic charging case of the Noise Buds F1 has a matte finish, which gives it a nice in-hand feel. In contrast, its sides are glossy. The build quality is decent, and the case does not flex upon being pressed. The hinge does not inspire a lot of confidence in its strength, but it did not present any problems during the review period.

Noise Buds F1 Review: Design

The notch below the lid makes it easy to pop open the case. A small LED notification light is placed below this notch. The USB Type-C charging port lies on the right edge of the case. The ‘Noise’ lettering is engraved on top of the lid. The case is compact and slides easily into small pockets. However, it can register minor scratches if you stash it alongside keys and loose change.

The earbuds follow the traditional in-ear design language. They are optimised to fit most ear sizes. There are 2 pairs of extra eartips, in small and large sizes, inside the retail box. We found the fit to be snug and comfortable. We did not experience ear fatigue after wearing these earbuds for multiple hours.

The stems of the earbuds have a matte finish while the inside panels are glossy. The upper ends of the stems are touch-sensitive. The touch-sensitive panels have a glossy finish, as it makes them easier to spot with your fingers. Inside either panel is a small LED indicator that starts blinking red when the battery hits a low threshold. The touch controls are tuned nicely, and accidental triggers are very rare.

Noise Buds F1 Review: Design

The Noise Buds F1 is rated IPX5 for dust and water resistance. We wore the earbuds while working out and were pleased to see that their performance remained unaffected by excessive sweat. However, the fit suffered when the glossy inner panels came in contact with sweat.

Noise Buds F1 Review: Performance

The Noise Buds F1 use 11mm drivers to deliver the audio output. There’s support for Bluetooth 5.3 onboard. Pairing the earbuds to a smartphone is a seamless process, despite the lack of Google Fast Pair. The handy pairing button puts the TWS in discovery mode after a single press. There’s one audio codec on offer – SBC.

Noise Buds F1’s soundstage is surprisingly good for a budget TWS. The balanced output is a nice respite from the bass-driven sound profiles that dominate this segment. While the low-end frequencies enjoy ample representation in the soundstage, they don’t cloud over the mid and the highs. The audio output is a little boxy, but that’s something to be expected from every TWS in this price bracket.

Noise Buds F1 Review: Performance

We played a wide range of genres on the Noise Buds F1. The earbuds did justice to the crunching hard rock guitar riffs and glossy bubblegum pop basslines. However, pushing the volume past the 80% mark distorted the output by a significant factor. The lack of detail was very noticeable.

The calling experience on Noise Buds F1 is pretty standard. The quad mic setup does a passable job of suppressing the background noise and relaying the speaker’s voice to the other end. The sound quality is boxy and lacks details. If you’re taking a call indoors, these earbuds will do a good job. However, in outdoor conditions, we recommend sticking to your phone’s microphone.

Our biggest complaint with the Noise Buds F1 TWS is that it doesn’t have a companion app. This means that you cannot remap the touch controls or customise the equaliser. Features like active noise cancellation, in-ear detection, and multi-device connection are also missing from these earbuds. However, it does get a handy low-latency mode for gaming. This mode can be triggered by double-tapping and holding either earbud. The gameplay experience in low-latency mode is smooth and lag-free.

During the week-long review period, we used the Noise Buds F1 for an average of 2 hours per day. The earbuds offer a playtime of up to 8 hours on a single charge. The charging case offers an additional 42 hours. We weren’t able to exhaust the battery after a week of use. The downside of not having a companion app is that there’s no way to tell the battery level of the charging case. The only indicator of a low battery status is the LED notification light. A quick 10-minute charge offers 150 minutes of playtime.

Verdict
