Vivo X300 FE: Superb in the Compact Flagship Segment

Vivo has an option for those fed up with bulky smartphones that are difficult to handle.

The Vivo X300 FE 5G is an outstanding blend of features meant to combat cutting-edge smartphone fatigue. It has a fast Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 CPU, a superb ZEISS portrait camera system and a long-lasting battery. However, with the premium price tag, it has to be put under the scanner for its performance and value in India’s competitive premium smartphone market. In nearly a week plus of testing, we looked at whether the Vivo X300 FE 5G distinguishes itself from the multitude of rivals on the market or whether any underlying compromises overwhelm its noteworthy tech performance.

Design and Display

Vivo X300 FE: Superb in the Compact Flagship Segment

The Vivo X300 FE truly catches the eye in a crowded market of bulky smartphones, thanks to its fresh and innovative design. It features a unique Visor camera bar, replacing the typical circular module with a sleek, extended bar that spans across the top of the device, giving it a modern and stylish look. This design is quite similar to the latest Google Pixel 10, with a futuristic look.

One of the prominent features of the X300 FE is the anti-wobble design. The camera bar is horizontal, and the way it’s positioned means the phone doesn’t wobble annoyingly when laid flat on a surface, as many other phones do. This is a fantastic design decision, as it makes it much more ergonomic and is a huge benefit over other phones that sway back and forth while using them.

The X300 FE is also built for full one-handed use. It’s a niche for premium, pocket-friendly flagship handsets, with a 6.31-inch display and a weight of about 190 grams, and it’s a direct rival to popular models like the Samsung Galaxy S26 and iPhone 17.

The new colourway, Urban Olive, offers a lovely change from the previously popular vibrant greens. Instead, it brings a soothing and sophisticated earthy green that you might find very calming and stylish. The choice is intended to convey a premium elegance, aligning with a professional aesthetic that minimises ostentation.

In terms of build aspects, the back panel has a high-quality matte glass surface, which is excellent at minimising smudges and fingerprints, but not completely. But this smooth matt surface, along with a flat aluminium mid-frame, adds to a slippery feel in the hand. To overcome this problem, the phone is provided with a soft silicone cover that matches its colour, so the original colour identity isn’t lost while also improving grip and functionality.

Vivo provides high-quality structural engineering, especially emphasising its FE positioning, while also ensuring strong build quality. The device is well-protected with dual IP68 and IP69 ratings, making it fully waterproof against accidental immersion and high-pressure jets. The mid-frame is crafted from sturdy aluminium with flat edges, and Vivo thoughtfully contours and rounds the transitions between glass and metal to enhance comfort and prevent any sharp edges, even during extended use.

On the right side of the aluminium frame, the power button and volume rocker are easily accessible. The 6.31-inch size is user-friendly, letting you engage comfortably with both buttons. The buttons feel sturdy and clicky, with no mushiness or lateral wobbling, which improves the entire tactile experience.

On the left side of the gadget, there is a simple design that securely holds the aluminium frame, while a secondary noise-cancelling mic is mounted on top. Additionally, an IR blaster is built in, enabling the device to serve as a universal remote for TVs and air conditioners.

At the bottom edge, you’ll find the main microphone, a dual Nano-SIM tray and the main speaker grille. It also has a USB Type-C connector at USB 2.0 speeds. The gadget additionally supports 90W wired fast charging, although the slower data transfer rate might be a problem for quick file transfers, especially for big video files.

The X300 FE gets a major boost in physical interaction with its ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner, which beats the older optical technology with faster and more reliable unlocks, even in tough situations like wet thumbs and bright sunlight.

Vivo X300 FE: Superb in the Compact Flagship Segment

The X300 FE is not about pretence but about elegant restraint, which sets it apart in the Indian market. While competition in the Rs 75,000-Rs 80,000 price category is all about loud gradients and massive camera modules, the X300 FE is a breath of fresh air with its simple and petite design. The horizontal camera bar gives it a familiar visual identity, and the Urban Olive finish adds a fresh but classic combo.

Now, let’s turn to the display. The Vivo X300 FE has a large 6.31-inch display and is noteworthy for its fully flat screen, a departure from many high-end smartphones, which normally choose curved edges. Vivo is touting a peak brightness of 5,000 nits, with the display’s luminance being a main emphasis.

The ambient light sensor automatically adjusts the screen brightness, making it easy for you to read text, reply to emails, and take photos without glare when you’re in bright sunshine. When you’re indoors, the display adjusts smoothly to lower brightness levels, usually between 50% and 60%, still showing vibrant colours even under fluorescent lights, with minimal reflections. The advanced anti-flicker dimming technology helps reduce the brightness to very low levels for late-night use, easing eye strain and making reading comfortable in darker settings. Overall, the X300 FE offers excellent visibility outdoors and performs well in low light, so it’s ready to handle the many lighting conditions you encounter during your commute or daily activities.

The display has a resolution of 1.5K (2640×1216) and a pixel density of 461 PPI, which means that text and icons are crisp. It has a ZEISS Master Color Display for improved colour calibration, excellent for picture editing or a more natural look, focusing on true skin tones and muted colours. There are also Standard and Vivid settings, with the default option offering a slightly boosted, high-contrast display that brings out the reds and blues, which is excellent for individuals who want a vivid OLED visual experience. The panel features a 2160Hz PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) dimming rate, making it especially friendly for nighttime use. It helps to significantly cut down on eye strain and headaches caused by screen flickering, allowing for a more comfortable viewing experience.

This device features a vibrant LTPO AMOLED display that adapts seamlessly with a versatile 1Hz to 120Hz refresh rate, offering three customizable modes: Smart Switch, Standard (60Hz), and High (120Hz). The Smart Switch mode is perfect for everyday use, while some apps might perform better with a 60Hz or 90Hz setting for enhanced power saving. For an optimal scrolling experience, High Mode ensures a consistent 120Hz across most compatible apps, making your navigation through menus, web pages, and social feeds incredibly smooth, fast, and virtually lag-free.

X300 FE is a pleasure to type on. The flat form factor avoids inadvertent touches from the palm and allows accurate key registration, and the one-handed ergonomics offer effortless thumb access to the full QWERTY layout. Plus, the haptics are upgraded with a mechanical vibration motor that gives nice tactile feedback on every keystroke.

Plus, the screen is fully certified in HDR10 and HDR10+, so you can enjoy stunning high dynamic range (HDR) content hassle-free in Full HD+ on platforms like YouTube, Netflix, and more. Thanks to its excellent contrast capabilities, you can easily create deep shadows and bright highlights, making your viewing experience much more immersive. On top of that, it features powerful stereo speakers that deliver clear, loud sound without any distortion, making it perfect for anyone who loves high-quality audio-visual performance.

Performance and Cameras

Unlike the standard models that use MediaTek, the Vivo X300 FE is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, the gadget is supported by 12GB of LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and is based on a 3nm architecture. The storage is based on UFS 4.1 technology; therefore, the phone will score about 3 million in AnTuTu benchmarks.

The Adreno 829 GPU dramatically improves the X300 FE’s mobile gaming performance, putting it directly in the flagship territory. Thanks to this exciting technological advancement, you can enjoy demanding games like BGMI and Call of Duty: Mobile with high-quality graphics, smooth and steady frame rates, quick texture rendering, and minimal touch delay thanks to its impressive 300Hz touch sampling rate. Plus, Vivo’s gaming assistant features a bypass charging mode that directs power straight to the motherboard while you’re charging, ensuring a seamless gaming experience. This feature not only prevents heat buildup during heavy usage but also helps to maintain the battery’s health over time.

To keep the heat in check, Vivo has a dedicated 4,005 sq mm Vapour Chamber (VC) liquid cooling system in a small 7.99mm frame. In real-world gaming, the aluminium mid-frame stays toasty but not too hot after a sustained 30-minute session.

The X300 FE is intended for everyday use and delivers impressive speed for daily tasks. The phone runs OriginOS 6 (based on Android 16) with a 120Hz LTPO display and special Oryon CPU cores for rapid animations. This means that activating system apps, dealing with large media and navigating local menus is done with striking immediacy.

Even though the gadget is small in design, it does not affect its workflow capabilities. It may be very efficient in many operating settings. It has 12GB LPDDR5X RAM that helps in efficient memory management and allows users to effortlessly run several apps. Moreover, the background retention function allows heavy apps to be cached for a long duration, resulting in a considerable improvement in user experience.

The gadget also allows split-screen with smooth data transfer using the Vivo Office Kit. Additionally, its smart resource allocation system ensures that main apps can comfortably maintain a 60Hz refresh rate, which helps boost performance during demanding tasks.

It has Origin Island for real-time status tracking and context-aware notifications, which makes it easier for users to interact and increases engagement. Its quality-of-life features provide Drag & Go/Copy & Go capabilities, enabling users to easily import photos, text, addresses or phone numbers onto Origin Island. The AI component automatically recommends the best apps to deal with different data types, streamlining your workflows.

Furthermore, the software works natively with AirPods, making it easy to connect, check the battery level in real-time and even provide spatial audio tracking capability to enhance the audio experience for users. With the Vivo Office Kit, users can move tasks between Mac and iPad effortlessly, operate computers remotely, and transfer folders wirelessly at fast speeds, all of which improve productivity, ease, and efficiency.

Furthermore, the close integration with Google’s Gemini Live makes conversational voice assistance feel lively and adaptable, leading to interactions that are smooth and natural. The software serves as a full writing partner, helping with rewriting and formatting drafts using AI-powered creativity tools and captioning features. With AI Captions, you also get live audio processing and real-time translations, ensuring key points are highlighted for clearer communication and better understanding.

The Vivo X300 FE software is a big step forward from previous mid-range devices, with fewer bloatware and a high-quality, flagship-like user interface. The emphasis is on a clean and simple design, with minimal notifications from system applications and a focus on useful widgets. Vivo also shines by providing long-term software support, including 5 years of major Android OS updates and 7 years of security patches. This ensures your device stays functional and optimised for longer, making it a great choice for anyone who values durability and reliable performance.

There are three cameras on the rear. The primary camera is a 50MP sensor with a wide aperture of f/1.57, which takes beautiful photos with excellent resolution and low-light performance. The second is a 50MP telephoto camera with OIS and 3x optical zoom with an aperture of f/2.65 for better zoomed-in photos. The third camera is an 8MP wide-angle camera with an aperture of f/2.2, which is good for landscape photographs or wider perspectives. It has a 50MP front-facing camera with autofocus and an f/2.0 aperture for superb selfies and video calls.

The main shooter performs well in daylight, exhibiting an impressive dynamic range and micro-contrast, which improves the images. This processing method helps create photos that feel full of depth, avoiding dull shadows that can make images look flat and uninspiring. The captured colours are rich and saturated, in line with Vivo’s design approach, without appearing artificial. The shooter has decent low-light performance with a larger aperture that cuts noise well while keeping important details. Low-light images are captured to reflect real-life visibility, steering clear of overly bright or unnatural enhancements. This way, the original scene remains true to life and authentic.

The telephoto camera is intended to capture human beings with incredible accuracy. It incorporates ZEISS Multifocal Portraits technology that lets users easily switch between 5 standard focal lengths of 23mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 100mm. This feature is supported by powerful edge detection, which also helps in improving picture sharpness and details.

review of Vivo X300 FE 5G

The camera offers a beautifully subtle background bokeh that looks natural and professional, giving your portrait photos a polished touch. When used with the optional Telephoto Extender Gen 2 adapter, which you can buy separately, it really boosts your photography skills, reaching a focal length of up to 200mm. This is especially great for capturing detailed images of distant subjects or performances while keeping the quality crisp and clear.

However, it should be noted that the telephoto lens has a minimum focusing distance of 50cm, which might reduce its ability for extreme close-up macro photography compared with higher-priced Pro versions. All in all, the range and quality of this camera make it a fantastic pick for portrait lovers.

The ultrawide camera is the most restricted component of the array. There is no autofocus, and it has a modest 1/4-inch sensor. It can produce satisfactory colour-matched wide images in ideal daylight circumstances. It loses sharpness and detail at night; its performance deteriorates rapidly in low light.

The 50MP front camera really shines when it comes to capturing crisp and clear selfies. With dedicated Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF), it helps bring out the texture of your skin and the contours of your face beautifully. Whether you’re snapping a close-up selfie or adjusting for a wider group shot, this camera ensures that all the details stay sharp and vivid.

review of Vivo X300 FE 5G

The primary camera lens offers impressive video capabilities, capturing stunning 4K footage at 120 fps and even 8K at 30 fps—perfect for creating smooth slow-motion videos. The secondary lenses, including the telephoto and selfie lens, also support 4K recording at 60 fps, making your videos look sharp and vibrant. The ultrawide lens, however, is limited to 1080p at 30 fps. Thanks to standard gyro-EIS technology, your handheld recordings will stay steady and smooth. Just keep in mind, this system doesn’t support HDR video, and recording for long periods at high frame rates in warm environments might cause the device to heat up.

The Vivo X300 FE shows great innovation in the battery arena, packing a massive 6,500 mAh battery in a slim 7.99mm body weighing only 191 grams. This is made feasible by high-density silicon-carbon (BlueVolt) technology, a major leap above rivals that normally use 4,500-5,000mAh batteries. It may go up to one and a half days with extensive use, such as social media, texting, photography and music streaming. For casual use, it may stretch to a full two days, giving you 6 to 7 hours of screen-on time with power left over. The phone can stream YouTube videos continuously for an incredible 38.4 hours on a single charge when it comes to media. For gaming, it offers over 11.8 hours of continuous mobile gameplay, demonstrating its optimisation for resource-heavy tasks.

The Vivo phone comes with a 90W FlashCharge wall adapter and has many charging settings. Ultra-Fast Mode takes you from 1% to 100% in around 55 to 58 minutes, and you can have two hours of gameplay on just 10 minutes of juice.

The default Standard Fast Mode fully charges in about 67 minutes with less heat, ideal for overnight charging. The X300 FE supports 40W Wireless FlashCharge, reaching full charge in around 2 hours on a proprietary dock, and also works with standard Qi chargers at slower speeds. It has reverse wireless charging, so you can just put wireless earphones or other gadgets on the back of the phone to charge them.

Verdict

The Vivo X300 FE 5G stands out for its compact size and two-day battery life, powered by a 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery. It features a fantastic 6.31-inch display, brilliant Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 CPU, ZEISS portrait capabilities, and IP68/IP69 water resistance. A better USB port, ultrawide camera would have been super additions. It’s ideal for those wanting a small flagship with good battery life and portrait photography, outperforming Galaxy S26 and iPhone 17 in battery life. However, for fast wired data or a high-res ultrawide camera, consider other options from Vivo.
