Asus ROG Strix G16 G615LR Laptop Review: Brilliant Performance

With top-tier GPUs, Mini-LED Nebula HDR screens, and a striking RGB style, it is made for professional-level gaming and creation.

Asus just dropped its 2025 ROG laptop lineup in India, and we’ve got our hands on the Strix G16 G615LR-S5190WS for a deep dive. This beast packs an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX under the hood, teams it up with an RTX 5070 Ti GPU, and dishes out a hefty 12GB of GDDR7 VRAM — basically, serious firepower for serious gamers. If you are chasing those buttery-smooth FPS frames, the Strix G16’s fast refresh rates and easy upgrade options have got your back. Starting at Rs 2,59,990, it’s no bargain basement deal, but it comes loaded with AI-powered tricks aimed at creators and gamers alike. And yes, it’s built to keep its cool — because no one wants a laptop that feels like a hot potato mid-game. Wrapped in all the gamer flair you’d expect, Asus’ Strix G16 blends style with substance for those who want performance that looks as good as it plays.

Asus ROG Strix G16 G615LR Review: Design and Display

We can see that Asus is attempting to appeal to gamers (design-wise) as soon as you take the Strix G16 out of the box. True, the laptop gives off a strong gaming vibe.

Spotting this laptop from the front? No doubt — it screams ROG. The bold branding on the lid’s top proudly waves the Republic of Gamers flag. Flip it around, and you’ll catch the exhaust vents working overtime, strategically placed at the back and on both sides. Think of the whole chassis as a high-tech radiator, cleverly channelling heat out so this gaming rig stays cool under pressure, because overheating is the real enemy in any battle.

Additionally, the back panel has three rubber pads. Also, we want to let you know that there is plenty of room for air to circulate when it is resting on the table because the rubber feet are very thick.

The construction is excellent; the rear lid is made entirely of aluminium, while the rest of the body is composed of high-quality polycarbonate and ABS. It’s also somewhat bulkier, if we debate the weight. It weighs 2.65 kg, which is higher than average for a gaming laptop. All in all, this gaming equipment is rather thick, we must say.

ROG Strix G16 G615LR has a 360-degree RGB light bar at the bottom that you can control with Aura Sync, and guess what? After turning on the Aura Sync, you’ll notice that the laptop seems to be sitting up in the air. This enhances the gaming laptop’s vibe significantly.

The model that we have comes in Eclipse Grey colour.

The laptop’s lid flex? Almost non-existent, thanks to its sturdy aluminium build. Keyboard flex is minimal, too, so no worries about mushy typing. But here’s the kicker — you can open this thing with just one hand, no drama. That tells you the weight distribution is spot on, making this laptop as smooth to handle as it is to game on.

Furthermore, the hinges’ quality is excellent. We can see really smooth hinges. We did not face any jerks when opening the lid up to 120 degrees (its fullest). With that, the bottom panel features two down-firing speakers. Aura lights are just below.

Now it’s time to check the ports, too. One power connector is provided for charging your laptop. In addition, there is a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port with a 10 Gbps bandwidth, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a 2.5G LAN port. Two Thunderbolt 5 ports are also included. That’s fantastic with regard to speed. Additionally, a QR code for ASUS assistance is also provided.

One 3.5 mm headphone/microphone combination jack is also included. There are two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports on the right profile, too, again with a speed rate of 10 Gbps.

Open the lid, and you will see the ROG brand engraved on the upper right side of the keyboard, along with “those who dare.” Stickers for NVIDIA RTX, NVIDIA G-Sync, and Intel Core Ultra 9 are visible around the palm rest area.

Here, you get to see a 4-zone RGB membrane keyboard, too. The numeric keypad is missing, though. Furthermore, all of these elements contribute to the gaming laptop’s aura. Five hotkeys are also part of the package. You may tailor them to your needs using the Armoury Crate program, which appears when you hit the M5 button. We’ll discuss it later in the review.

This laptop comes with a dedicated co-pilot button — because every gamer needs a trusty sidekick. The M4 key lets you toggle between thermal modes like turbo, silent, and performance with a simple tap. Just a heads-up: to unleash that turbo beast mode, you’ll need to have the charger plugged in — no half-measures when it comes to maxing out power.

However, the quality of the keyboard is excellent. We’ve typed and played games here. The experience was superb.

Coming to the trackpad, it has a glass finish. You can multitask to the highest degree here using a lot of gestures.

This laptop also features a full HD IR webcam that supports Windows Hello. A two-way noise-cancelling microphone is also included. On top of that, the Windows Studio effect is supported. This allows you to experiment with various functionalities such as eye contact and automatic framing. The background effect is another thing that can be used for portrait and normal blur.

In terms of webcam quality, it looks decent.

Asus ROG Strix G16 G615LR Laptop Review: Brilliant Performance

The display is a 16-inch WQXE IPS-level ROG Nebula Display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels. It features a 240Hz refresh rate, a 16:10 aspect ratio, and a 3 ms reaction time (G2G). At its brightest, it delivers 500 nits. HDR and Dolby Vision come hand in hand with Pantone (which has verified the display). But the train of verifications does not stop here. TUV Rheinland certification is also what you get when you purchase this notebook. This gaming laptop yields incredibly vivid colour using 100% DCI P3. If you are a skilled cinematographer or video editor, you don’t need to worry about colour accuracy.

To further enhance your watching experience, you may opt for Dolby Vision and play with various options. Bright mode, dark mode, and vivid mode are the three settings that are available here. We could see the increased brightness and experience the authentic Dolby Vision feel when the ‘vivid mode’ was turned on.

ASUS ROG Strix G16 G615LR: Performance

Under the hood, the Asus ROG Strix G16 G615LR flexes with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU — a beast from the HX series boasting a base TDP of 55W that can crank up to a whopping 160W. It packs 24 cores and 24 threads, juggling eight performance cores and sixteen efficiency cores like a pro. Storage-wise, you get a speedy 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD, with a cheeky option to double up to 2TB. Memory? A hefty 32GB DDR5-5600 MHz SO-DIMM ready to max out at 64GB across two slots — basically, this rig’s built to handle anything you throw at it. The SSD’s read and write speeds hit a solid 6912 Mbps and 5711 Mbps, keeping data flying fast. Plus, with a dedicated neural processing unit boasting 13 TOPS and Intel AI Boost, this laptop works smarter to keep power efficiency in check — a true powerhouse with brains to match.

Review of Asus ROG Strix G16 G615LR

Asus ROG Strix G16 G615LR has an NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti GPU for graphics. It features 5888 CUDA Cores, 140W TGP, and 12GB GDDR7 VRAM, with a frequency of 1,515MHz. It supports multi-frame generation and DLSS 4, too. With improved power efficiency, you can observe an improvement in gameplay as well.

Other features include Bluetooth version 5.4 and the most recent Wi-Fi 7.

Despite being a gaming laptop, it has been designed for people who work in the real world. You get to see the MS Office Home 2024 license as part of the deal, too.

When it comes to actual performance, you can execute any task on it, regardless of what you’re doing as a professional or a student. The powerful graphics card will therefore make it easy to perform all of the jobs, including regular browsing, coding, programming, machine learning, and executing algorithms with neural engines and artificial intelligence. Therefore, this machine is capable of accomplishing any high-end project.

When it comes to productivity, you can edit photos at any level using programs like Photoshop or Premiere Pro, or you may edit videos, and it will produce excellent 4K video editing. This could be your next tool to boost your video editing abilities if you are a content creator. Its CPU is undoubtedly incredibly powerful. Thus, you won’t find any flaws in the video editing.

Last but not least, this will also function flawlessly if you need to perform graphics-intensive tasks like 3D modelling for architecture-related work, AutoCAD, or software like Fusion 360, among others. The majority of the high-level work will be performed for you by the incredibly powerful RTX 5070 Ti graphics card.

And lastly, games. We tested some games for you, such as CS2, using 1600p resolutions and really high settings. This game offers a good frame rate. It’s extremely easy to touch rates of up to 150–160 frames per second. Additionally, the thermal is also maintained.

Next, we tried the much-loved GTA5; this is the upgraded version, with everything, including ray tracing, set to extremely high settings at 2,560×1,600 pixels. The average FPS was between 70 and 80. Throttling did not occur, and we had a great time playing the game.

It makes no difference whether you enable ray tracing or not; the Core Ultra 9 and the RTX 570Ti both manage the games and the outcomes with ease. Thermals were quite good. This is how expensive machines work.

Another observation we made was that the thermals were not correctly enabled when we first started playing the game. However, it stabilises on its own after a few minutes of gameplay.

Additionally, you can look at the laptop’s entire chart via the Armoury Crate software, such as the fan, CPU, memory, and GPU. You may see all the statistics just by going into the devices tab and selecting the device. All of the available settings are adjustable. For example, you can check the CPU configuration (E-Core and P-Core) and modify the function here.

You also have access to a variety of features in GPU mode. Such as optimised, eco mode, standard, or ultimate. If the ultimate mode is chosen, the DGPU (discrete graphics processing unit) will provide you with the display output directly. This indicates that a MUX switch is supported by this laptop. You can use eco mode for increased power efficiency. The output from the iGPU will then be fully available to you. It will effortlessly increase the laptop’s battery backup.

More Armoury Crate features include accessing the customisable hotkeys have been made available, too. Yes, your hotkey can be personalised. Additionally, you get various lighting effects such as Aura Sync, colour cycle, strobing, breathing, static, and rainbow. Furthermore, the Armoury Crate software makes it simple to configure this 360-degree light bar.

Many say laptops don’t come with good speakers. However, you get incredible twin speakers here. With Dolby Atmos tweaked as well as smart amplifier technologies, the subwoofer, which is also included,  enhances the bass quality.

This laptop has a 90 Wh, 4-cell battery. As a result, you may anticipate a 1.5–2 hour battery backup while playing games or creating content. Apart from that, you might expect a three-hour backup if you are watching films or consuming other types of entertainment, normally. However, keep in mind that you must plug in the power adapter if you want to enjoy an excellent gaming experience. Otherwise, you will also experience lag when playing games. To power it up, it comes with a huge 280W adapter.
