Comet, Perplexity AI’s AI-powered web browser, has been officially released worldwide and is currently free for everyone to use. This action is taken as the company looks to solidify its position in the midst of growing competition from well-established rivals, namely Google. In July, Comet was first made available only to Perplexity Max subscribers, who had to pay a $200 monthly subscription fee.
The decision to make the browser free for all users marks a strategic shift for Perplexity AI as it expands its offerings and seeks to attract a larger user base.
The company via blog post said, “Today, we’re proud to unveil the initial launch partners for Comet Plus. Comet Plus is the new business model designed by Perplexity to deliver premium journalism to a more curious, empowered internet and ensure publishers benefit from the new demands of the AI age.”
Perplexity hopes to increase its user base and compete with other AI browsers from firms like Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic by making Comet available for free.

The Comet browser from Perplexity serves as a personal assistant that makes it easier to shop, organise tabs, compose emails, and conduct web searches. According to reports, the platform’s queue has grown to millions since it was first made available to Perplexity Max customers in July for a $200 monthly subscription.
Comet AI tackles the problem of creating a better internet in the context of artificial intelligence. Users and their AI assistants may directly receive high-quality news and trustworthy responses supported by accurate reporting with this $5 standalone subscription service (free for Perplexity Pro and Max subscribers). According to the firm, participating publishers are paid according to three criteria that show how valuable their content is in the context of artificial intelligence.

The partnership ensures that Comet Plus members have easy access to valuable premium content, such as global news, deep analysis, and excellent cultural material, all integrated into the Comet browsing experience.
