Oppo has introduced ColorOS 16, an Android 16-based software upgrade for its devices. The update will be released in countries worldwide, including India, alongside the new Oppo Find X9 series. It incorporates AI Portrait Glow, which improves low-light portraits by adjusting lighting and skin tones. The update also includes enhancements to Oppo’s AI features for photography, such as a dedicated optimisation project called Project Breeze.. The upgrade will also include a revised user interface, updated icons, and system applications.
ColorOS 16 expands on ColorOS 15’s Parallel Animation by providing smooth Animation, which allows for seamless and immediate interactions throughout the operating system. This fluidity is visible in a variety of user contexts, including launching and closing programs, switching between apps, and navigating widgets. Animations begin at the point of touch and return seamlessly when dismissed, resulting in a continuous visual flow.
The All-New Luminous Rendering Engine and the All-New Trinity Engine drive this next-generation smoothness. The All-New Luminous Rendering Engine generates visual components simultaneously, reducing jarring animation changes, and the All-New Trinity Engine is designed for high-load applications such as intensive gaming and multitasking. ColorOS 16 further improves performance for entry-level devices with “Project Breeze,” delivering a smooth and responsive experience even on hardware with modest capabilities.
ColorOS 16 introduces a new design inspired by natural light and shadow interactions, which improves the user experience. Users may customise their phones by using Motion Photos or Videos as wallpapers, selecting fonts, or letting AI suggest text styles. The new OS also has a full-screen Always-On Display (AOD), which allows users to see their lock screen wallpaper with important information. Flux Home Screen enables users to resize folders or app icons into various forms, with the home screen layout dynamically adjusting to the new shape and smooth animations driven by the All-New Luminous Rendering Engine.

ColorOS 16 includes AI Portrait Glow, a feature that improves portraits in low light by adjusting skin tones and regulating light with a single tap. It joins OPPO’s AI editing features, including AI Eraser, AI Unblur, and AI Reflection Remover, for quick photo enhancement. The built-in video editor has been enhanced with Master Cut, which now includes trimming speed controls, music integration, cropping, text, filters, and manual adjustments.

OPPO has developed Touch to Share, which allows for seamless transfers between OPPO ColorOS 15 smartphones and iOS devices, as well as O+ Connect, which provides advanced Mac interaction with Find N5. With ColorOS 16, O+ Connect now supports both Mac and Windows PCs, allowing users to manage phone files remotely from their computer. Screen Mirroring lets users cast up to five applications from their phone and manage them using a mouse and keyboard, making it ideal for meetings or lectures.
