Bharti Airtel rolled out mobile connectivity for the Indian Army in the tough terrain of Arunachal Pradesh, a landmark breakthrough in communications in remote regions. Bharti Airtel, in collaboration with the Indian Army, has successfully installed its network infrastructure across 30 strategically vital Army stations. With this initiative, Airtel has become the first and only telecom operator to provide such connectivity in these difficult-to-reach areas, thereby improving communication capabilities for the military in this important border state.
Airtel, one of the leading telecommunication companies in India, has successfully completed the first phase of a major project in collaboration with the 4 Corps of the Indian Army. The primary objective of this project is to increase mobile coverage in the remote areas of Arunachal Pradesh, renowned for its rugged mountain terrain and high altitudes. Airtel has been the first and only service provider to provide dependable mobile services in this hard-to-network location. This expansion of connection would be beneficial for the military personnel also and the civilians as well. It will help individuals to keep in touch with their family and loved ones irrespective of their geographical isolation.
The company has successfully built a standard network system in 30 Army posts in difficult mountainous terrain, improving voice and data connections in areas that have traditionally been deprived of such services. This was facilitated with the cooperation of the Indian Army, which supplied vital logistics support, especially for the deployment of fibre optic cables and the power infrastructure required.

Where no roads existed, the Indian Army played a key role in transporting Airtel’s technical personnel and necessary equipment to the far-flung mountainous terrain. The successful completion of Phase 1 of the project has provided a sound base for Phase 2 of the project, which seeks to extend the network coverage to a further fifteen locations in Arunachal Pradesh. This advancement will increase communication capabilities in underdeveloped places, furthering enhanced connection for military and civilian use.
