Facebook launched new standalone app Threads for Instagram

Threads is an app for Instagram users to connect with their close friends

Social media giant Facebook announced the launch of a new companion app for Instagram. The company introduced an application called ‘Threads’ that will let the users share their personal pictures, status, current location and battery life with their close friends on Instagram. A few months ago we reported that Facebook is working on a new app that will encourage close sharing between users with text, photos as well as videos with the use of Instagram’s original tools.

In the past, Facebook made several efforts to make visual sharing on Instagram by launching a standalone messaging app ‘Direct’, but it was put down later on. Now again it has introduced Threads standalone app to allow the users to share photos, videos, messages, Stories and more with your Instagram close friends list.

“Last year, we introduced Close Friends for sharing more personal moments with a select group of people you choose. Now, you can use Threads to message those people on your Instagram close friends list and you’ll have a dedicated inbox and notifications just for them. You can customize the list as per you your preference when you download the app. Only those people will be able to message you who you choose to put on your list” said the company.

The new app will allow you to share your pictures or videos with the people you are close to quickly on Instagram. The app opens it right away to the camera so that you can add shortcuts to it.

Now you can share your status only with friends you wish to. The app allows you to choose from suggested status like ‘studying’, create your own ‘Procrastinating’ or else turn on Auto Status like ‘On the move’. This can only be viewed by your close friends. “Status was created with your privacy in mind – you control whether you share your status and with whom.” The Auto message will require your location so you need to turn on your location service, for instance, the Auto Status “At a cafe” is set when you’re at a coffee shop, but the name of the café or address it will not be shared.

“Auto Status will not share your precise location with your friends, and when Threads sends location information to our server to look up locations, it’s not stored there – this information is only stored on your device for a limited time. It is also deleted if you remove Threads” as further stated by the company.
