These iPhone models will no longer be supported by WhatsApp

If you're running iOS 10 or 11, you'll need to upgrade to iOS 12 to keep using WhatsApp.

WhatsApp has quietly removed support for iPhones running iOS 10 and 11, therefore, making iOS 12 the minimum software requirement. So the Meta-owned instant messaging app has discontinued support for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c models. WhatsApp has begun notifying iOS 10 and iOS 11 users about the update.

WhatsApp has a history of ending support for certain Android and iOS versions in order to introduce new features. In this case, WhatsApp has announced that it will cease to support iOS 10, iOS 11, iPhone 5, and iPhone 5C in the coming months.

Dropping support for older iOS versions implies that WhatsApp users will be unable to receive new updates or security fixes until they upgrade to a newer iOS version — or newer hardware running iOS 12 or later. According to a WAbetaInfo report, Many users claimed that WhatsApp was planning to stop supporting iOS 10 at the end of last year, but this was false information. Unfortunately, WhatsApp is planning to discontinue support for certain iOS versions in the coming months due to internal reasons.

According to this screenshot, WhatsApp will no longer support iOS 10 and iOS 11 after October 24, 2022. This is also supported by an article on the official WhatsApp Help Center, which lists iOS 12 and later versions as supported and recommended operating systems.

If you’re running iOS 10 or 11, you’ll need to upgrade to iOS 12 to keep using WhatsApp. This means you can still use WhatsApp on the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6S, but you’ll need to update your iOS version.

Because iOS 12 is not yet available for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C, WhatsApp will no longer be compatible with these devices. To support WhatsApp’s most recent features, it’s necessary to remove support for certain iOS versions. It is always recommended to update iOS because it includes the most recent security patches.
