WhatsApp may offer the functionality of message reactions in a future version, according to the latest report. The feature is currently under development that will enable users to instantly attribute an emoji “reaction” to a message. Note that this feature is supported by other Meta owned products like Face and Instagram. Telegram also allows its users to react to a specific message using emojis.
The WhatsApp message reactions were first spotted testing last year on Android and iOS for months. In a new development, WhatsApp looks to be working on bringing message reaction capabilities to the desktop client. According to a snapshot released by WhatsApp features tracker WABetaInfo of the WhatsApp Desktop beta the functionality is not yet available for beta testers because it is still in development.
As seen in this snapshot, you may respond to messages by selecting one of six different emojis. We previously knew this from previous publications, but the response button is a new addition. When the cursor is close to a chat or group message, a new response button appears. You will be able to respond to the message by pressing the response button. The function is still under development, but the fact that WhatsApp is finally working on it today suggests that it won’t be long.
In the meanwhile, WhatsApp is developing a new shortcut for editing recipients when submitting a new Status update, allowing users to pick the audience for each update. But they have been seen on beta versions of WhatsApp Desktop and WhatsApp for Android, respectively, both additions are still in the works. This implies that users will not be able to update them until they are enabled in the app’s beta versions and then in the stable channel. There’s no information on when these features will be available to everyone.
WhatsApp has started rolling out a new audio call interface to iOS beta users. The news comes only a few days after an iOS device upgrade, including iPhone and iPad models, enabled users to play voice messages in the background. The capability is now accessible to select iOS beta testers with the latest compatible WhatsApp for iOS beta 22.5.0.70 upgrade. As a result of the change, users may now play voice messages and audio files outside of the chat window.
