First things first, a site search is a search made by Google through a single domain instead of searching through the entire internet. When you perform a site search, it returns results from one website. Performing a site search is quite easy. All you have to do is put ‘site:’ in front of the URL that you want to search through and that’s it! The search results that you are presented with get narrowed down to just one domain. Amongst its many uses, site searches can prove very useful in finding similar content on the internet, especially images. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to find similar images using Google’s site search.

Step 1: Go to images.google.com from your web browser.

Step 2: Use the ‘site:’ search operator before keying in the domain URL which you want results from, and then type in the keywords for image search. (For example: ‘site:pexels.com nature’, where ‘site:’ is the search operator being used, ‘pexels.com’ is the domain URL from which results are required and nature is the keyword used for searching nature images from the pexels.com website.)

That’s it! On your screen will be displayed all images relevant to the keyword nature from the website that you used for your site search.

Google’s site search operator comes in handy when you are finding the original source of an image or images highly similar to it. It can also prove useful while doing market or competitor research, as it allows one to easily traverse through any particular website for all kinds of content, be it products, data, blogs, articles or images. Moreover, you can perform a site search on your own website to find older content that you can reference or choose to update. This becomes especially efficient in case your domain is quite extensive, as a site search navigates and filters through content quite fast.
