The option to move tabs from the top of the screen to the side is one of the most requested features by Chrome users. Other browsers like Microsoft Edge and Mozilla Firefox already support this feature, so it’s about time that Chrome got it too. Google has finally heard its users and added a vertical tab panel to its web browser. However, it is only available as a beta feature right now. Let’s take a quick look at how you can enable and use vertical tabs in Google Chrome.

Before you begin
‘Vertical Tabs’ does pretty much what it says. Once you select this option, your tabs get moved to a vertical panel on the left side of the screen. This panel can be minimised with a single click. It contains shortcuts to open a new tab, search existing tabs, and manage tab groups. Each tab contains the title of the website and the close button.
Right now, this feature is available in the Beta and Canary apps for Chrome. The latter is designed for developers to test new tools for their websites. It is updated daily and can be quite unstable to use. If you solely want to use the vertical tabs feature, we recommend using Chrome Beta. Make sure the version you install is v145 or above.

Final Thoughts
Since vertical tab alignment is a beta feature right now, Google needs to resolve a few issues before rolling it out on the stable version of Chrome. For example, clicking on a tab when the vertical panel is minimised closes it instead of opening it in the main window. This quirk will likely be creased out soon.
