Apple will no longer use the moniker “iPhone 15 Pro Max” and will instead use “iPhone 15 Ultra”

The iPhone 15 Ultra isn't anticipated to differ significantly from its siblings.

We now often hear rumours and leaks about the next iPhone, and its release date is quickly approaching. Apple will release its newest lineup of iPhones in the second week of September this year like it does every year. The latest iPhone 15 series’ features have been subject to several leaks and rumours. One of them claims that the name of the iPhone 15 Pro Max will change. This year’s flagship iPhone from Apple is likely to be known as the iPhone 15 Ultra, replacing the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

As per Andrew O’Hara of AppleInsider on X, “Here’s a late Friday tidbit I’ve heard for #iPhone15. Multiple sources have told me Apple will indeed use the “iPhone 15 Ultra” monicker for the plus-sized pro phone. This was an early rumour that got backpedalled. Most have since referred to it as iPhone 15 Pro Max.”

If the said information is to be believed then the new iPhone 15 series will include four models- iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Ultra.

The iPhone 15 Ultra isn’t anticipated to differ significantly from its siblings. Renders show that all four models will have somewhat improved designs with slightly curved edges and smaller bezels around the displays. The iPhone 15 Pro Max will still differ from the rest of the range in a few key ways, though.

Andrew O’Hara further revealed that the iPhone 15 Ultra will have a larger display and a 10X periscope tele lens. Both the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Ultra will be titanium instead of stainless steel. In addition to this, they will have the Action Button in place of the mute toggle, and likely get the new 3nm A17 Bionic chip.

According to other reports, Apple will sell the iPhone 15 Pro Max in a raw colour option, similar to the Apple Watch Ultra, to showcase the new finish. According to reports, it will also have bezels that are incredibly thin—possibly thinner than those on the iPhone 15 Pro. It will reportedly have the smallest smartphone bezels ever, according to some publications.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max is anticipated to be bulkier than the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Rumours suggest that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be 8.25mm thick as opposed to the iPhone 14 Pro Max’s 7.85mm, allowing Apple to reduce the camera bump. Apparently, the buttons are also changing. Apple will once again use a volume rocker rather than discrete buttons and the mute switch will become an Action button.
