Google has updated its Passes API (Application Programming Interface), which will now help you to store your COVID-19 vaccination online. The feature has been enabled in the United States and will be available to many countries. Now you can store your vaccination card securely on your Android smartphones.
The updated Passed API by Google will let you access your COVID-19 vaccination certificate from your home screen easily after you have stored it on your Android device. You will not even be needing an internet connection to view your vaccination card. But there is a requirement your device should be updated to Android 5 or later and have Play Protect Certified. Google also has announced that user’s information is also not to be shared with any third party services. And you have complete control over the certification you have stored and Google does not retain a copy of it.

Remember, if you want to save your COVID vaccination card on multiple devices you need to save it manually on each device. You also have the option to protect your COVID card using a lock screen, PIN, or Finger Print lock.
Also, it is highly important for the government agencies, Health care organisations, and public authorities which are held responsible for conducting vaccination and COVID tests to use the Passes API. Only then you will be able to enable the digital vaccine card on your Android smartphones. The digital version of your vaccination will show the information of the name of your vaccine and when the first and second doses were taken. To make it better it will also produce the complete details on your COVID-19 tests.
What was said on the Google blog post:
“Google has updated its Passes API to enable a simple and secure way to store and access COVID vaccination and test cards on Android devices. Starting today, developers from healthcare organisations, government agencies, and organisations authorised by public health authorities to distribute COVID vaccine and/or tests will have the access to these APIs to create a digital version of COVID vaccination or test information. This will roll out initially in the United States followed by other countries”.
Hope the information on the digital vaccination certification will help you create your online vaccine card very soon once the feature is available in all countries including India. And make sure you have all taken the second vaccine dose.
