MediaTek to ship Dimensity 800U SoC powered smartphones by January 2021 

The Dimensity 800U chipset enhances the 5G experience offering  advanced connectivity features

Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturer MediaTek has announced the launch of its 7nm MediaTek Dimensity 800U. The company will be collaborating with popular smartphone brands to launch the 7nm MediaTek Dimensity 800U powered smartphones in India. The company has announced during the India Mobile Congress 2020. The chipset will deliver a 5G experience to the mid-range devices and that to come in January 2021. 

According to MediaTek, the first MediaTek powered 5G smartphones available in India in January next year. The U in the MediaTek Dimensity 800U stands for Ultra Connected – provides dual 5G SIM capabilities to future-ready smartphones with access to the highest quality voice calling services with VoNR from either connection. The 5G-integrated chip is said to feature exclusive MediaTek 5G UltraSave technologies providing 2.3Gbps download speeds

The Dimensity 800U provides 5G-CA (2CC 5G Carrier Aggregation) and Dual 5G SIM; technologies offered beyond competitor solutions.5G-CA enables higher average speeds and a seamless handover between two 5G connection areas across a coverage layer, where users receive over 30% greater throughput layer coverage than without CA.

The chipset features two Arm Cortex-A76 ‘Big’ cores operating up to a speedy 2.4GHz in its octa-core CPU paired with Arm Mali G57-class GPU, extreme clocked LPDDR4X memory up to 2,133MHz and next-gen UFS 2.2-class storage. This has support for 120Hz displays offering smoother scrolling of web pages, the fastest response in games with zero-blur and animations in apps. In addition to this, it can offer smartphones with crisp, high-resolution FullHD+ displays and ultra-fast responsiveness. Whereas MiraVision enhances HDR10+ content playback with MediaTek ‘local tone mapping’ technologies by retaining more detail and contrast even through the extremes of light and dark regions.

According to the company, Dimensity 800U can also allow equipping larger camera sensors with up to 64 megapixels. It is capable of embracing up to four cameras in its smartphone designs therefore delivering more depth to the images for accurate bokeh in real-time previews and pictures, anti-distortion-warping, noise reduction and facial detection. In addition to this, it can also allow providing customized software and AI-camera enhancements.

The MediaTek Dimensity 800U SoC is capable of listening for multiple trigger words to wake up virtual assistants such as Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa or other localized services.
