The upgrade includes new face forms as well as assistance items such as wheelchairs for persons with disabilities.

Instagram stories and direct messages will now have 3D avatars, thanks to Meta. Aigerim Shorman, Meta’s General Manager for Avatars and Identity, made the announcement on the company’s official blog. The redesigned avatars are now being rolled out on Facebook, Messenger and Instagram. This is also the first time any of the company’s Avatars have been made available on Instagram.

While announcing the new update Meta said, “We’re beginning to roll out our updated 3D Avatars to Facebook and Messenger and for the first time Instagram Stories and DMs. Starting today people in the United States, Canada, and Mexico can show up as their virtual self across apps via stickers, feed posts, Facebook profile pictures and more.”

Meta has begun rolling out 3D Avatars to Facebook and Messenger and for the first time Instagram Stories and DMs.

The update is now accessible in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, as well as other countries where the distribution has already begun. Cochlear implants and over-the-ear hearing aids (for one or both ears) are now available in a range of colours and on all platforms, including VR. Wheelchairs will also display as stickers on Facebook, in Messenger conversations, and in Instagram DMs. As we said the 3D avatar is now being rolled out to all Meta’s social media platforms like Facebook, Messenger and Instagram so the users may utilise their virtual likeness to make stickers, feed posts, comments, stories and profile photographs, among other things. Facebook users who have previously generated an avatar will see it changed to 3D with this update. “Your avatar will automatically enter the third dimension as part of this update, and we’re doing our best to make sure your new-and-improved self matches the choices you made previously.”

Also, the users can create two separate avatars for Instagram and Facebook and a third for VR. Users who have registered with the Accounts Centre can sync their avatars across several platforms. Any changes you make to your avatar on Facebook and Messenger will automatically appear on Instagram as well, and vice versa.

Meta has also collaborated with the NFL to create Super Bowl LVI avatar tees. People may now dress their avatars in limited-edition Cincinnati Bengals or Los Angeles Rams clothing. “With Super Bowl LVI just around the corner on February 13, we wanted to give fans a chance to show off and celebrate their favourite teams. From now until February 28, you’ll be able to outfit your avatar to support the Cincinnati Bengals or Los Angeles Rams — or if you can’t bring yourself to cheer for either team, there’s also a neutral Super Bowl LVI shirt you can choose instead,” the blog post noted.
