On Thursday, Netflix widened its restriction on password sharing to India and informed customers that their accounts could not be freely used by others outside of their homes. Limits on password borrowing and a new ad-supported alternative are just two of the efforts being made by Video streaming platform to find new revenue streams.
The news is rife. Restrictions on account and password sharing will be implemented by Netflix for its Indian user base. According to the company limit on password sharing to India will be implemented from today onwards.
“Starting today, we will be sending this email to members who are sharing Netflix outside their household in India,” Netflix stated.

To recall Netflix saw a surge in daily sign-ups in the US after it implemented password-sharing restrictions there along with 100 other regions in May this year. The list included Britain, France, Germany, Australia, Singapore, Mexico and Brazil.
According to the emails, only one household should utilise a Netflix account. If someone outside of your household is using your account you can transfer a profile. This means anyone on your account can transfer a profile to a new membership that they pay for.
According to FAQs a Netflix account is meant to be shared by people who live together in one household. People who are not in your household will need to sign up for their own account to watch Netflix. Netflix will require a temporary 4-digit verification code that must be entered within 15 minutes of seeking access if a new device connected to the primary account is in a different location. The device will be accessible elsewhere for seven days in a row.

The business claims that customers who take their primary device on travels will have no issue using Netflix far away. However, the users are required to connect to Wi-Fi from their primary location at least once every 31 days for continuous Netflix access.
As mentioned earlier that one can transfer a profile to a new membership. Here is how to Transfer a Netflix Profile:
- You’ll be notified by email as soon as Profile Transfer becomes available on your account.
- To transfer a profile, go to the “Transfer Profile” option when you hover over your profile icon in the dropdown menu on the homepage — then simply follow the instructions.
- You can always turn off Profile Transfer in your account settings at any time.
