Redmi Note 7 is being discontinued and replaced by Redmi Note 7S: Xiaomi

Redmi Note 7S is the original Redmi Note 7 launched in China.

Yesterday, Xiaomi launched a new device in its Redmi Note 7-series of smartphones – the Redmi Note 7S. The Redmi Note 7S has a lot of specifications in common with Redmi Note 7 with slightly improvements and it holds a similar price tag. The newly launched Redmi Note 7S is priced at Rs 10,999. With the addition of a new device in the Note 7-lineup, the original Redmi Note 7 will be ‘phased out’. Xiaomi is already planning to replace the Redmi Note 7 with the Redmi Note 7S and it has made this news official on Twitter.

The Redmi Note 7 was launched earlier this year and the discontinuation of the device only months after its launch seems odd and it comes as a surprise. The regular Redmi Note-series has been the main smartphone from Xiaomi Note lineup with its upgraded version launched as the Redmi Note Pro. Speaking about the reason for discontinuation of the Redmi Note 7, Xiaomi India’s Anuj Sharma Head of Marketing explains through a tweet, “More connected with lifecycle volumes than time. Sometimes planned volumes sell out faster than expected (way faster).”

The Redmi Note 7S will go on its first sale from May 23 onwards and it will be available on Flipkart, Mi.com and Mi Home Stores along with Mi Preferred partners.

The newly launched smartphone is powered by the an octa-core Snapdragon 660 SoC clocked at 2.2GHz paired with up to 3GB/ 4GB RAM and 32GB/ 64GB of storage. The Redmi Note 7S also comes with microSD card support and it packs a 4,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 4 support. similar to the original Redmi Note 7, the Redmi Note 7S also runs Android 9 Pie skinned with MIUI 10.
