Sony expands its CineAlta digital cinema cameras with the launch of its newest addition Burano camera. The Burano camera is specifically made for small crews and single-camera operators. This is the first digital cinema camera with a PL-Mount in the world to have in-body image stabilisation. It comes with a sensor that matches the VENICE 2’s colour science. The digital camera includes an 8.6K Full-Frame sensor with Dual Base ISO & 16 stops Latitude. There is an electronic built-in variable ND filter for added control and exposure optimisation.

Sony Burano digital camera will be available with a price tag of Rs 37,69,990. The bookings for the new camera have begun today which is scheduled to go on sale in the first week of 2024. Additionally, Sony has announced a special bundle deal that, when you buy the Burano, comes with two free units of CFexpress Type B Memory Card 960GB (CEB-G960T) and one free unit of memory card reader (MRW-G1) worth Rs 2,61,570.

Sony Burano comes with a tiny lightweight body with magnesium chassis which is 1.4 kg lighter and about 32 mm shorter than the VENICE 2 camera. Moreover, a moulded pulp cushion is used on the camera as the cushioning material, thus not using expanded polystyrene. The camera operator’s side has all of the menu buttons. Furthermore, three tally lamps are positioned to improve the surrounding crew to check the shooting status. Also, there is a 3.5-inch multi-function LCD monitor that can be used as a viewfinder, for touch focus, or menu control.

In addition to this, the device has an optional robust T-handle, viewfinder arm, two 3-pin XLR audio inputs, and a headphone terminal (stereo minijack), convenient for solo operation.

Utilising the highly regarded colour science of the VENICE cameras, BURANO has an 8.6K full-frame sensor making it to be used in a variety of production scenarios. As per Sony the sensor’s dual base ISO of 800 and 3200 and 16 stops of latitude allow it to capture pictures even in difficult lightings. The digital camera will also support de-squeeze for anamorphic lenses and be able to film at full-frame, Super 35. Up to 8K at 30 frames per second, 6K at 60 frames per second, or 4K at 120 frames per second are among the frame rates it can record in. It is the world’s first Built-in optical image stabilisation with PL mount lenses for in-body image stabilisation. It can handle unwanted camera shake, such as movement from handheld or walking photography.

Additionally, the digital camera has an electronic variable ND filter from 0.6 to 2.1, enabling easy adjustments in various lighting conditions. Furthermore, the electronic variable ND filter enables the iris to regulate the depth of field and adapt to the ideal exposure without modifying the depth of field.

According to Sony, almost 70 E-mount lenses are compatible with high-precision AI-powered Subject Recognition AF, and Fast Hybrid AF. This combines the advantages of phase detection and contrast detection and the superb image stabilisation feature fostered by Alpha.

The camera is capable of recording in HD to 8K resolution depending on the codec, aspect ratio, and resolution. Also, it supports a variety of internal recording formats including the MPEG-H HEVC/H.265 high compression efficiency codec using new XAVC H for 8K, XAVC and X-OCN LT.
