To assist users in maintaining the security and privacy of their messages and chats WhatsApp has introduced a much-awaited feature namely Chat Lock. This feature was under testing for quite some time and is now available for both Android and iOS users across the globe. Users will be able to unlock their chats using fingerprint sensors, hence this will boost privacy.
The WhatsApp Chat Lock feature was a much-needed feature for those who want to keep their chats private from others. The Meta-owned instant chatting app via blog post announced the latest feature. The company believes that this functionality will be fantastic for folks who occasionally share their phones with family members or for those situations in which someone else is holding your phone at the exact moment an extra special chat arrives.

“Our passion is to find new ways to help keep your messages private and secure. Today, we’re excited to bring to you a new feature we’re calling Chat Lock, which lets you protect your most intimate conversations behind one more layer of security,” the Blog Post said.
As per WhatsApp Locking a chat takes that thread out of the inbox and puts it behind its own folder that can only be accessed with your device password or biometric, like a fingerprint. When you enable Chat Lock on a particular conversation the app will also automatically hide the contents of that chat in notifications, too.
Because the chat is locked only a fingerprint can open it, making it nearly impossible for anyone else to access the chat. This feature also ensures that media files, including images and videos, received in a locked chat are not automatically saved to the device’s gallery.
By pressing the name of a one-to-one or group chat and choosing the lock option, a WhatsApp user can lock a chat. Pull down your inbox gently to see these chats, then enter your phone’s password or biometric to access them.
WhatsApp also said, “Over the next few months we’re going to be adding more options for Chat Lock, including locking for companion devices and creating a custom password for your chats so that you can use a unique password different from the one you use for your phone.”
