Vivo V50 launching in India today: Here is how to watch the livestream

The Chinese smartphone brand Vivo is all set to launch a brand new V-Series smartphone in India today. The Vivo V50 is going to succeed the Vivo V40 which launched last year. The upcoming mid-range smartphone series will offer a fresh design and upgraded specs. Here is everything we know about the upcoming premium mid-range offering.

How to watch the live event?

The Vivo V50 is scheduled to launch in India today at 12 noon IST. The company will be hosting a launch event which will also be livestreamed via the company’s official YouTube channel as well as via its social media channels. Availability Details Confirmed

Ahead of the official release Vivo revealed that the post-launch the upcoming V-Series phone will officially sell through popular e-commerce platforms- Flipkart and Amazon. In addition to this it will also be made available through the Vivo India e-store. It is confirmed that the Vivo V50 will come in three colour variants: Rose Red, Starry Blue, and Titanium Grey.

Pre-reservations are already live and the company will be providing 1-year of extended warranty along with 1-year screen damage protection at discounted pricing.
Besides this, the company has not yet confirmed the pricing but the upcoming smartphone is likely to be priced higher than its predecessor. It is expected to be priced under 50k and could start at Rs 37,999.

Confirmed Specifications and Features

Display size is yet to be revealed but Vivo V50 is confirmed to feature a quad-curved display with a 41-degree curvature, 0.186 cm bezel size, and Diamond Shield Glass protection. In terms of software, the handset is likely to come pre-installed with Android 15-based FuntouchOS 15. The company has not confirmed but it is likely to be powered by a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC and will be available with 12GB RAM with 512GB storage, as well as support for 12GB of virtual RAM expansion.

The Vivo V50 is set to feature a 50MP primary camera with OIS and Aura Light at the back, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 50MP front camera for taking selfies. It will be fueled by a 6,000mAh battery with 90W fast charging support.

The Vivo V50 is confirmed to sport AI features like Circle to Search, Transcript Assist, Live Call Translation, Erase 2.0 and Light Portrait 2.0. It will also have IP68 and IP69 water and dust resistance ratings.

Before the March 4 launch of the Nothing Phone 3a series, the company has shared important details about the upcoming smartphones. Nothing CEO Carl Pei disclosed the devices’ CPU specifications, and the smartphone brand also stated that the upcoming series will receive significant upgrades to its CPU and neural processing unit (NPU), which will enhance its on-device artificial intelligence (AI) processing.

In contrast to the MediaTek Dimensity processors used in the predecessor, the upcoming smartphones will use a Snapdragon chipset, which will have a 25% faster CPU and a 72% faster NPU than the Phone (2a), according to Nothing CEO Carl Pei, ahead of the debut of the Nothing Phone 3a Series. Nothing CEO Carl Pei – “I’m happy to announce that we are going back to the Qualcomm Snapdragon series with the Phone (3a). Compared to the Phone (2a) Plus it’s going to have 25% faster CPU, and a 72% faster NPU”.

Before revealing the CPU details the company released a sneak peek at the side panel of the upcoming phone. The Nothing Phone 3a may have an iPhone-like Action Button on the side, which might allow users to access the camera and take a picture or launch an AI assistant. The button’s operation is still unclear. The business previously revealed the glyph interface and camera design in a separate post on the X of its scheduled smartphone. The company hasn’t shared anything yet. The company is likely to introduce the Nothing Phone 3a and Phone 3a Pro.

Telegram has released a new update for February, following two app upgrades in January. Users can now search millions of stickers using AI, copy video links, set cover photos, react with Stars as a channel, and browse similar bots. 

With the latest update, Telegram has introduced an AI-powered search feature for over 40,000 stickers and emojis from its official packs. The feature returns results from millions of custom stickers and emojis uploaded by Telegram users. The feature supports searching in 29 languages, including English, Spanish, Arabic, and Hindi.

For instance, “Try searching for complex keywords like thinking monkey or space dog – the sticker panel will instantly return exactly what you’re looking for.”

According to the company, users will also be able to create their own stickers or emojis in a few simple steps.

Telegram now allows users to include the current timestamp in a video link, allowing it to open in Telegram at the exact moment when a user taps on the link. To share a video link, tap the share arrow in the video player. Since 2019, timestamps like 1:38 have been allowed in video message answers and captions to draw attention to amusing moments or point viewers to certain parts.

Now onwards Video covers in Telegram channels can be created by adding text, stickers, and emojis to the video editor. Users can choose a frame to use as a cover photo and add text, stickers, and emojis before selecting a cover. To edit a video cover, tap the three-dot icon in the top corner.

Telegram is now also offering saved progress for videos, letting users take breaks and return to their starting point. All videos are said to support picture-in-picture playback, therefore enabling users to continue watching while replying to messages, and browsing other chats as well.

Moreover, Telegram users will now be able to support content creators with Stars by sending a Star reaction to their channel posts, offering greater privacy and allowing them to promote their channel in the leaderboard. Poco launched its new X7 Series last month. The base variant in this series gets significant changes to its design and form factor along with a new chipset. These changes come at a small premium as the 256GB storage variant of the smartphone is priced at Rs 21,999. Poco has also introduced a 128GB variant for users who don’t want to splurge more than Rs 20,000 on a smartphone. We’ve been using this smartphone for the last week, putting it through our daily run of tasks. Here is our in-depth review of the Poco X7 5G.

Poco X7 5G Review: Design and Display

Poco X7’s design is a complete departure from the aesthetic laid down by its predecessor. The back panel is now curved along the edges and comes in 2 variants – plastic and eco-leather. We used the latter variant for this review and quite liked its in-hand feel. However, the yellow and black colour combination on this variant seems quite gaudy and over the top. While these are the official Poco colours, they could have been implemented more tastefully.

Poco X7 5G Review: Design and Display

The square camera panel with rounded corners reminds us of iQOO 13 (our review here). There are 4 individual cutouts on top of this platform. The cutouts and the outer panel have a golden border. The Poco branding is positioned at the bottom of the panel and has a smooth golden finish. The plastic frame houses the volume rocker keys and side button along its right edge and the SIM tray, USB port, microphone, and primary speaker. Up top lie the IR blaster, secondary speaker, and secondary microphones.

The 6.67-inch AMOLED display has a 120Hz refresh rate and can reach a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. In High Brightness Mode, it can go up to 1,200 nits, which is enough to maintain legibility in bright outdoor conditions. Since this is a curved panel, accidental touches are common while holding the phone in landscape mode. The in-display optical fingerprint scanner is snappy and works well even when your fingers are wet.

During the review period, we used the Poco X7 5G to stream content across OTT platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, and JioHotstar. The HDR10+ support did wonders for the viewing experience. We enjoyed consistent image quality across all streaming platforms. The vivid colours and deep blacks brought out the best in the content relayed on the screen. The audio output produced by the dual speaker setup was loud but slightly tinny.

An improved IP68 rating against exposure to dust and water is another big highlight of Poco X7. Poco says that the X7 ‘supports’ IP69 protection. It claims that the smartphone can survive being submerged up to 2 meters for 24 hours. These specs are further strengthened by Corning Gorilla Victus 2 protection for the display.

Powering the Poco X7 5G is the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Ultra SoC. The smartphone comes in 2 storage (UFS 2.2) variants. Both variants have an 8GB RAM (LPDDR4X).

On the Geekbench 6 app, Poco X7 scored 1,032 points in the single-core test and 2,901 points in the multi-core test. The smartphone holds up quite well in everyday use despite not flaunting the fastest RAM and storage configurations. Apps don’t take much time to load, background tasks are nicely optimised, and the touch response is top-notch. Routine tasks like video calling, social media, browsing, media streaming, and IMing are handled expertly.

We played games like Call of Duty and Asphalt Legends Unite on our Poco X7 5G review unit and were satisfied with its performance. In medium graphics, the smartphone did a good job of eliminating lags and frame drops. However, some of these issues became more apparent after switching to high graphics. The 13,780mm² cooling graphite sheet does a good job of dissipating the heat generated while gaming.

Poco X7 5G runs the Android 14-based HyperOS out of the box, while its Pro sibling runs the Android 15-based HyperOS 2. While the updated HyperOS version would’ve been ideal, the X7 curates a good software experience. We are particularly fond of the iOS-inspired Quick Settings Menu layout. The device offers many customisation options, including magazine and rhombus-style lock screens.

The overall software experience feels light and snappy. The inclusion of Gemini Assistant is a nice touch, given the smartphone’s affordable pricing. The smartphone has lots of bloatware apps, which is to be expected from a device in this price segment. Thankfully, these apps can be easily uninstalled. Poco has promised three major OS upgrades for the X7, including Android 15 (HyperOS 2).

Poco X7 5G packs a bigger battery than its predecessor. The 5,500mAh unit has enough juice to power the smartphone through the day without inducing any battery anxiety. On moderate usage and 4-5 hours of screen time, we ended the day with a 20-30% charge still left in the tank. While the big battery has its perks, Poco has reduced its charging speed on the X7. It now supports 45W charging instead of 67W. It took us 55 minutes to fully charge the smartphone using the charger provided in the box.

The rear camera panel of Poco X7 5G features a 50MP Sony LYT 600 primary shooter, an 8MP ultrawide lens, and a 2MP macro sensor. The 20MP front-facing camera is parked inside a punch-hole cutout on the display.

The 50MP primary shooter takes good pictures in outdoor daylight conditions. The images showcase rich colours and decent sharpness. The colours assigned to the objects and the sky are accurate and representative of the scene in front of the camera. The dynamic range and contrast are also on point. However, in limited lighting conditions, the final results are a smidge softer. The Night Mode does a good job of brightening the subject and eliminating most of the grain, but the sharpness levels are far from ideal.

The 8MP ultrawide camera takes decent pictures in daylight conditions, matching the colour accuracy of the primary shooter. However, the images are notably softer. In limited lighting, the pictures taken with this camera are not as bright as we would have liked. However, this is something that most ultrawide sensors in this price range struggle with.

Poco X7 5G takes good portrait shots. The images are well focussed and showcase rich colours. The smartphone does a good job of detecting the edges of the subject and separating it from the background. The warmer tones in the portraits make them ‘social media ready’. The 20MP front-facing camera takes good selfies but goes a little overboard with smoothening the texture of the subject’s skin.

Verdict

After using the Poco X7 5G for a week, we were quite happy with its reliable performance. The MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Ultra chipset remained unfazed by routine tasks and did not hit any roadblocks. The curved AMOLED panel produces a highly enjoyable viewing experience and has an incredible touch response. While the smartphone runs last year’s Android 14 OS out of the box, the HyperOS skin makes the software experience fun and snappy. To top it off, the primary shooter takes nice pictures in daylight conditions. Overall, this smartphone checks all the essential boxes and is a great deal under Rs 20,000.

The Realme P3x 5G is scheduled to launch in India, and online information on its colour, RAM, and storage configurations has surfaced. The company has formally declared that next week will be the debut date in India. China’s ByteDance-owned company was able to temporarily function in the United States after President Trump’s executive order postponed the ban for 75 days. The business was promised that there would be no penalties for maintaining or distributing the Chinese app.

Due to national security concerns regarding user data, TikTok, a social media company owned by Chinese people, was banned in the United States. On January 18, the app went dark for a short time and vanished from app stores. After being taken down for almost a month, it has finally made a comeback to the Google and Apple app stores.

The TikTok ban has been postponed for 75 days by Trump’s executive order, allowing the ByteDance-owned firm to at least temporarily function in the United States and guaranteeing that digital marketplaces and mobile app stores that handle apps won’t be penalised for continuing to operate.

TikTok has been threatened with a ban by Trump unless it separates from its Chinese owner, ByteDance. He made the suggestion that the US and ByteDance form a joint venture, but he did not elaborate. Trump thinks he has the authority to shut down or sell TikTok, and he might need Chinese consent for this. Penalties for breaking the law, if the app is used, could reach $5,000 per user. It is possible to have reciprocal tariffs.

Keep in mind that Trump first tried to outlaw TikTok in the US on grounds of national security. With the announcement of a 75-day law enforcement halt signed by Biden and approved by Congress, TikTok’s service was restored during Trump’s second term.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg earlier disclosed that the 2024 iPhone SE is scheduled for next week.
