Enable dark theme
Here’s how you can enable the in-app dark theme on WhatsApp.
Step 1: Launch WhatsApp on your smartphone and tap the ellipses (three dots) at the top right corner of the screen.
Step 2: Tap on Settings.
Step 3: Select Chats.
Step 4: Tap on ‘Theme’ under the Display category.
Step 5: Tap on ‘Dark’ to enable the dark theme.
Enable dark mode from System Settings
Turning on dark mode from your smartphone’s settings will apply it across all apps, including WhatsApp. Here’s how you can do that.
Step 1: Go to Settings and select Display.
Step 2: Tap on ‘Dark’ to enable dark mode.
Change the chat wallpaper
Here’s how you can change the background wallpaper for all chat threads on WhatsApp.
Step 1: Launch WhatsApp on your smartphone and tap the ellipses (three dots) at the top right corner of the screen.

Step 3: Select Chats.
Step 4: Tap on ‘Wallpaper’ under the Display category.
