There are two ways in which Alexa can control these smart devices. Some devices directly get connected with Alexa and are ready to be operated through it while others have to be first connected with a smart home hub which then connects to Alexa. In order to connect your smart home device with Amazon Echo Alexa, your smart home devices need to be set up and running. You would need to verify whether your smart home devices are compatible with Alexa or not. Further, it is advised that you thoroughly go through all the safety information for using your smart home devices with Alexa before connecting them.

 Step 1: Make sure both your Amazon Echo device as well as the smart device you want to connect with it are on. 

Step 2: Open the Alexa app and go to More > Add a Device.

Step 3: Select the type of smart home device you want to connect.

You can also connect your smart home devices with Alexa through voice commands. All you need to do is activate Alexa by giving the command “Hey Alexa” > “Discover My Devices”. Alexa will then guide you through the setup. Moreover, devices equipped with Amazon’s ‘Frustration-Free Setup’ technology may automatically get connected to Alexa.
