Pricing and Availability
Samsung has announced the 990 SSD in 1TB and 2TB versions. The anticipated release is scheduled for the last week of July 2026. The Samsung 990 SSD 1TB model will be available at Rs 25,649, whereas the 2TB model will come with a price tag of Rs 50,349.
Features and Specifications
Samsung 990 SSD is designed to deliver excellent performance with advanced features, including a PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe 2.0 interface in an M.2 (2280) form factor. It comes in two storage sizes, 1TB and 2TB, with the former offering outstanding sequential rates of up to 7,150 MB/s (read) and 6,450 MB/s (write), while the latter is a little faster with read speeds of 7,250 MB/s at a similar write speed.
Power efficiency is enhanced by up to 38% over the previous 990 PRO model, offering outstanding performance with less energy consumption.
The 1TB SSD can achieve random read speeds of up to 700,000 IOPS (input/output operations per second) and write speeds of up to 1,100,000 IOPS. The 2TB model delivers even higher performance, with 850,000 IOPS for reads and 1,200,000 IOPS for writes. The performance improvements help applications to start quicker, games to run better, and massive workloads to be managed more efficiently.
The drive supports Samsung Magician software for monitoring and optimising these functions. Security is further enhanced with AES 256-bit full disc encryption, TCG/Opal V2.0 compliance and compatibility for encrypted drive technology (IEEE1667) for data security and privacy.
Endurance is strong with the 1TB model having a Total Bytes Written (TBW) rating of 400TB, while the 2TB model has a whopping TBW of 800TB, demonstrating their longevity and dependability for heavy-duty data processing activities.
