Snap introduced SPECS AR glasses with two Snapdragon processors and a built-in display

Snap Inc. announced SPECS, its first consumer AR glasses, designed to be standalone wearable computers. They’ve got AI support, immersive entertainment and productivity features so you can get things done without a screen. Snap SPECS is said to be lightweight and comfortable, and enables hand tracking and spatial computing without a smartphone. Snap also announced new AI-powered tools for developers to build more AR lenses, with on-device processing and restrictions over data to protect user privacy.

SPECS augmented reality glasses are currently available for pre-order at SPECS.COM for $2,195. A $200 refundable deposit is needed to hold the order. These glasses are planned to arrive this autumn and will be available in the United States, the United Kingdom and France.

The new Snap Specs AR glasses come in two sizes: a 47mm model, which is relatively light at 132 grams, and a slightly heavier 52mm model at 136 grams. They come with a privacy function with an LED indication so you know when the camera is recording. The glasses can also be outfitted with prescription lenses, so they can be used by those who require vision correction.

A highlight of these spectacles is their electrochromic lenses, which can change their tint in around 10 seconds to suit the light conditions. Furthermore, content streaming is directly enabled for the convenience of multimedia experiences on the go.

In terms of performance, the display quality is good, comparable to a 24-inch desktop monitor for work and a 115-inch screen at 10 feet for movies. The Specs display system uses patented liquid crystal on silicon technology, which guarantees great quality in visual output.

It further includes a 51-degree field of vision and a capability to display 16 million colours, which adds depth and brightness to the visual experience.
