The messaging platform Telegram has come out with a major upgrade, adding a slew of new features to make it better for users. Enhancements like the Rich Text Editor and Telegram Communities aim to make chats more organised and expressive. New to this version are Ephemeral Bot Messages and an expansion of the GIF search to include more than 350 million GIFs. These updates are aimed at enhancing collaboration among groups and communities with a focus on privacy of communication.
Telegram added a Rich Text Editor to help you write structured messages. The new tool has features like headings, tables, lists, quotes, code blocks and the option to integrate photographs and videos, making things better for users while communicating. The editor has an intuitive visual interface and is augmented with AI tools for Premium users that make it easy to create and refine content, with a strong focus on user privacy. And it supports messages up to 32,768 characters, which is great for longer conversations and writing down detailed information.
Telegram has also introduced Ephemeral Bot Messages, a new feature that boosts bot functionality in group chats. With this feature, your message will only be visible to the person you are replying to, enabling a more personal conversation in the busy chat. Ephemeral messages can be used for various purposes, including sending welcome messages, creating AI-powered summaries, providing confirmations, sending error messages, and displaying menus, all of which make the experience smoother. These messages can also be sent by bots automatically or in response to a specific command, giving developers more flexibility to create fun and privacy-focused interactions for users. The aim of this feature is to improve the user experience and reduce the clutter that can occur in group conversations.

There’s also a feature in Telegram called Communities, which connects a number of groups, channels and bots around a common topic. It’s a new way for users to discover and join the conversations that matter to them, and more easily. Administrators have control over chat visibility, offering options to make conversations accessible to all members or to limit them to select individuals. You can have the communities set up as a long chat that can be expanded – this makes it easier to have a centralised place to talk about things. Or you can have separate chats, which allows you to manage the whole chat list better. Communities are also built to be collaborative, with members able to create new chats if they so want, with administrators able to set certain restrictions on this feature if they like.

Telegram has upgraded its GIF feature, enabling users to search through 350 million GIFs in 36 languages. This souped-up search feature taps on offline indexing and open-source AI models to provide super-fast and private search experiences. Telegram in particular stands out from other messaging services by being more focused on privacy. Telegram does not send your GIF search data to third-party services, which makes the user experience better while protecting your data.
