PM Modi announced on November 8, 2016, that the government is demonetising all the Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes in the economy. While people are still debating whether it was a good move or a bad one, it did do one thing that’s very good. Digital payments in India increased by over 105% after the demonetisation was announced. Even today a lot of people prefer to pay digitally and not via currency notes.
