Google Maps is bringing incident reporting to Android Auto, a capability that was previously exclusive to mobile devices. The capability, which was released more than two years ago, was ultimately brought to Apple’s CarPlay in July of this year, meeting an ongoing need for incident reporting in Google Maps. This feature enhances safety and navigation. After an event is reported, it appears on the map, allowing for real-time traffic updates and route changes depending on user information.
Google Maps is now supporting incident reporting for Android Auto, a capability that was previously only accessible for mobile devices. This feature was originally announced in July and then integrated into Apple CarPlay in India. By September’s end, though, it was still missing from service. After being available to a restricted number of users, Google has now expanded incident reporting to include all users.

A new triangular hazard button has been added to Android Auto Maps dashboards, providing reporting options for road hazards like accidents, traffic jams, construction zones, lane closures, and speed traps. The icon doesn’t appear when the dashboard layout lacks vertical space. Users will receive messages to confirm road hazards on their route once the feature is active.
How to enable Google Maps Incident Reporting?
- Open the Google Maps app on the mobile device.
- Enter a destination and navigate.
- Tap the “+” icon on Android.
- Tap the ‘Report’ button on the iPhone.
- Select incident type from the options.
- Confirm the report and send it to share information.
- The report appears on the map for safe navigation.
