Nokia, a phone brand brought back from the brink of death has been launching new and innovative smartphones consistently. And it was all made possible after the acquisition of Nokia by HMD Global post which the company started launching all its smartphones under the Android One programme.
Smartphones under the Android One programme receive timely security patches and Android updates. And now, the Nokia 5, Nokia 6 and the Nokia 8 are getting a new software update which brings the March 2019 Android security patch to the handsets.
It should be noted that the updates were to be brought out earlier but they were delayed due to some reasons, but now the first generation of the Nokia phones have started receiving the updates. It has been reported that Nokia 8 is receiving the new update this week. Some users of Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 have also reported to receive the update. Furthermore, Nokia 9 PureView has started receiving a new update as well which speeds up its camera performance along with the fingerprint scanner along with the face unlock. In addition to this, the update for Nokia 9 PureView brings the April 2019 security patch.
According to a report by Nokia Mob, HMD Global has said in a community post last week that the March Security patch for the Nokia 5, Nokia 6 and Nokia 8 had been delayed. The delay was because of a one-time issue related to the rollout, so the company decided to take the time to solve the problem and then roll out the update.
The size of the new March Security patch update for the Nokia 5 is 267MB, while for Nokia 6 it is 345MB and for Nokia 8 the file size is 95MB. With the security patch update, the Nokia users will get the solution for the severe critical security vulnerability in the Media Framework which could enable a remote attacker using a specially crafted file to execute the arbitrary code within the context of the privileged process. All three of the first-generation Nokia phones had already received the Android 9 Pie update earlier this year itself.
Furthermore, the Nokia 9 PureView is also getting the new update with the build number 4.22C and it has a file size of around 250MB. According to a report by NPU, the update comes with the April 2019 security patch update along with stability and UI improvements. As mentioned above, the update also brings speed improvements to the camera, the in-display fingerprint sensor along with the face unlock feature.
