Photo sharing app Instagram owned by Meta has announced a new product-tagging feature on its platform. This feature was previously available only to creators and business accounts but now it has been expanded to all Instagram users. So anyone can now tag products in their Instagram posts.

While announcing the ability to add product tags to Feed posts Instagram said, “Today, we’re expanding the ability to add product tags in Feed posts to everyone in the U.S. Creators and brands have been sharing how they use and style their favourite products on Instagram and inspiring their communities. Now we’re giving access to everyone to inspire those closest to them by enabling product tagging in posts. From supporting brands you love to helping your friends and family discover new products they may like, sharing products on Instagram just got easier.”

The ability to add product tags to Instagram Feed posts is initially being rolled out in the United States to public accounts. Use the tagging feature to tag a brand before specifying a product when creating a post. When someone taps on your product tag in a published Feed post, they’ll be taken to a product detail page on Instagram, where they can get more information about the product and buy it directly in the app or through the brand’s product detail page.

How to add a product tag is as follows:

  • Begin creating a Feed post.
  • Select ‘Tag people.’
  • First, search for and tag the brand. At the bottom, there should be two options labelled ‘People’ and ‘Products.’
  • Choose ‘Products’ from the drop-down menu.
  • To begin tagging products, tap the photo. To locate a product, use descriptors. After you’ve found the product, add any styles and/or colours you want, then tap to tag it.
  • Hit ‘share’ to publish the post!

Note that this feature is only available for public accounts.
